02567263-916B-4E9E-B2A7-15E504A6F833.jpeg My neighbor had a big Doug Fir blow over in the summer of 2019. He cut it up and stacked it at the time. He stopped me while I was walking my dog the other day to ask if I wanted the wood. I said “Is the Pope catholic!?”

it’s good stuff. Seasoned and ready to go. I’ll split it in the next couple of weeks and stack it for next winter.

Went back and got another truck load after I dropped this one off. Pardon the messy stacking job. buZZsaw BRAD would be ashamed of me. I had to load quickly. I was blocking the road.

Looks fine to me. If im not getting a heaping load ill just toss rounds into the PU. If im going for the motherload load, ill stack it in the bed neatly.
Nice score there CL! What percentage of your inventory is DF?

Douglass fir is easily 40+ Percent of my inventory. It’s really good stuff. I take all I can get.

They are really nice rounds. I’ll have to take a pic of this monster round I got in the second load. I could barely lift it. It’s probably 150 pounds? Almost noodle size.

Nice score Cash Larue . Looks like they're checked pretty good for you. I'll like to try some DF. Maybe I can trade you some BL for DF.

It splits like a dream. Super straight grain. Very little effort to split by hand. It also burns surprisingly clean and hot. It’s much heavier than pine too.

We have the white fir in my area not Douglas but I'm guessing they're similar when burning. Good score.

That would be the smart thing to do. I squat them up to my chest off the ground. Then I waddle to the truck. I pick up my right knee and half rest it there. Then I kind of shot put it onto the tailgate. I’m sure it looks super awkward.

I’ve got both in my area plus ponderosa pine (and quaking aspen too) I have found in order of highest BTUs to lowest it goes DF, PP, QA, then white fir. PP and QA almost equal.WF burns the quickest. Good for kindling and short fires. DF the best. Only thing better is Gambel oak. Well, Pinyon pine between the DF and oak. But pinyon does burn dirty and DF burns much cleaner.

That method is quick but has potential drawbacks. Loading wood in large rounds just isn't worth the hernia. Guess how I figured out that little life lesson?

Same here. I can lift big rounds but having disc issues and the back pain from two years ago still fresh in my mind i dont. Even the 16" Sugar maple rounds from Sundays scrounge were heavy so i halved them. Makes it easier when i have to handle them several times as well.
Not trying to preach Cash Larue , just dont wanna see you get :pain:

With therapy and good meds im down to twice a night.

I totally agree on all points. Although, I’ve never seen white fit around here, so I can’t really put my two cents down on it. But we have all of the other trees you mentioned. And I totally agree with your assessment of them:thumbs:
