It is primo wood weather! Unusual January for sure, built 3 more firewood racks and drug a few more logs up to where I make firewood. If this weather keeps up I'll be in the woods gathering more logs soon.
Hey, I like the rack design. Pretty simply construction and you can move them around on pallet forks. Those 2x2s for the sides?
The side uprights are 2x6, the taper you see is so that I get 2 76" pieces from a 106" board with 6" of width at the hinge point. I now saw my own Lumber and everything is full dimension, the only store bought lumber is the PT for the bottom that sits on the ground. I fill them right off the splitter and cover the top using roofing rubber and "barn metal " screws to keep it in place, and yes, move it with the forks to where it will sit for a long time, and then get moved to the house for use. I believe I've eliminated as many "handling" steps as possible, the problem is each rack is tied up for about 2 years. I have 16 of them now and think 20 should do. I burn around 6 cord each season and the racks hold approximately 80 c/f each cut to my 26" length.
Cool thanks. I zoomed in on the pic. From afar they didn’t look like 2x6. And what about the base? I like the idea of less handling and was thinking of those IBC totes, but disposing of all that plastic seems like a PIA.
I want the plastic! I'm thinking of cutting the sides off, turning them sideways and making them into waist high "raised bed" gardening planters. Have you seen where guys cut them diagonally making a nice peaked roof for covering the frame?
Yeah like leoht on this forum has them all super well organized with the peaked roofs. That looks cool. for gardening i’m into right in the ground doing it no till style
Spencer , they were off the chain yesterday... pun intended. They both were running around like crazy, and stealing splitter shrapnel.
A little long for my wagon but nothing fell off. It's been great condition's in the woods, a lot of bare ground that's froze tight, and what snow there is, is hard too.
