That's a very good start on just how you plan for the future and uncertain events and or costs! Good job doing that in anticipation of inclement (?) weather for you. You will soon figure it out that this policy is easily applied to all facets of your life.
Eckie is 100% spot on how they treat even “the thought” of flurries here in VA. It’s utterly ridiculous. When I was a kid growing up on Long Island, we routinely went to school with 12”-16” of snow on the ground. And had recess at lunch, to boot. Not to trunk, but literally boot. My dad ran a the plow throughout the winter when off shift from his full time job as a police officer. Before we were old enough to help bring wood in for the stove, he did that too. About age 5 I was expected to bring wood in. Never griped about it tho- complaining wasn’t an option in our home. By age 7-8 my brother and I were riding along with our dad in the plow truck and assisting with cleanups. Inclement weather? We jumped headlong at it because we had a man of a father showing us how to get sh.t done.
I think it is mainly the lawyers; they are afraid of getting sued. Yet, they shut the schools down and they are all running around at WalMart; go figure.
Send 'im a nice lil global warming gift pack?! I've tried taking the boy along a couple different times too...the first time I think he was too young, he was ready to go home pretty quick, tried again this year, lasted a little longer...still wasn't too into it...I suppose doing driveways and parking lots is not very interesting as a passenger...would be better doing streets, but they have the full time plow guys do the streets, unless we get "snowmageddon"...but its probably been 10-12 years since that's happened...
We plowed for a regular list of customers- all residential driveways- always word of mouth/family friends that we knew well before my brother and I came along. Before we could sling snow with a shovel, a ride along was still a treat just because we got to spend extra time w/ dad... he was a very busy man working for his family, as so many of you dads (and moms) of FHC are.
And yet so many people bow to it, and now expect it. Soft types, complaining instead of actualizing on their own behalf... confused about what role to step up to.
First grade we were out of school 2 days. We had a blizzard that you could stand outside and not see your own feet.got over 3 feet. Lucky if we got a day off the rest of the time I was in school. Only time school was cancelled was bad ice storms or 18 plus inches of snow starting 5 am. I hated (and still do) shoveling the steps and walkways around the house.
