Storm on the way

There is a storm on the way; forecast small amount of snow of maybe three inches. Which could mean there will be a meter on the ground when it is over . I brought in enough wood to fill the racks. I am not completely recovered from the pulled muscles so I only carry one piece of firewood in each hand and just made lots of back and forth trips. I got around four wheelbarrows to fill the racks.

I moved the car further up the drive and have it pointing out towards the road but that is only if some emergency drives me out of the house. Otherwise I plan on have a nice fire going and just sitting and relaxing when possible. Of course I still have the three web projects going to occupy my time.

 

Kimberly Look at the bright side of your situation. Carrying wood in 2 pieces at a time increases your daily step count. You'll make it to 10,000 in no time.

 

Appears as the chimney draft issue is fixed.....

 

It smokes on reloads and starting fires. I have learned to build a small hot fire with the door cracked open and watch the flu temp gauge to see when to shut the door; too soon and the fire will die on me from lack of draft. I still believe that the "box" across the flu opening is the issue; there are lots of complaints about the stove being a smoker.

So far we have had heavy snow to light flurries with it all melting on the ground. However, I am sure there will be some storms in the future where the ground will turn white.

 

Things change quick; snowing hard and ground getting white.

 

Can't help but wonder why you are taking so many precautions over a forecast of 3".

 

Many stoves have something similar...I know my Drolet does...it keeps the hot gasses from taking a shortcut up the flue...keeps them in contact with the stove top as long as possible...

 

I’ts rare in the UP in Jan or February where it doesn’t snow 3” every night. From Newberry to Houghton it’s common

 

.....and its got to be a lot more than that to get anyone out to buy bread milk and eggs up here!

 

I’d imagine they get up 15 minutes early for work if they were forcasted 16” overnight

 

3" of snow here is quite the event as well. 6 to 12" will get schools closed as there are so many that have to travel. Just a very different climate.

 

I just don't like traipsing out in inclement weather to bring in wood.

 

3" can shut schools down around here. Sometimes it doesn't even end up being that, and they will close. They are very afraid of having buses on the road and it being slick. Saw this morning they had treated some of the roads around here. As of while ago we had nothing, not even rain.

 

The roadways were clear all day. Only the grassy areas got cover in the white stuff. Most of my gravel drive was clear. It was purdy to watch though.

 

3” ..... that’s still considered a heavy frost....
