I've been looking at taking down some trees on the far side of the pole barn.
    So, today was the start.
Took down this Pine, and started cutting it up. Lots of branches.
I'll finish tomorrow if we don't get rain. I'll take more pics too.

They're talking hot & humid the next couple of days. Maybe that pole can wait 'til Thursday?
Good job dropping and trimming there.

Lots of white pine here. I fact, it is just about everywhere. Can be very messy. Pitch gets on you car and is hard to get off. Limbs easily break off in storms, and they just explode when hit by lightning.

I've got one partially down out in the woods, but not sure when I'll get to it....if ever.

Got started on the pine today. 2 loads to the stacks so far with some more limbing to do.

I cut one up Sunday that I knocked over with the backhoe to get the stump out at the same time.
The pine bark beetles were starting to call it home so it needed to get cut and split.
Some of the branches were big enough to pile up on the saw horse for fire starters but most will get dragged off into the woods.
Green pine branches chew up in a chipper easy but mine needs an engine.
I mostly wanted to clean up the hole from the stump.

Hope to make kindling out of the rounds soon.
I dislike those grubs under the bark.

So, got another bug up my............uh, anyway, I decided to just start crankin' out the softwoods, since they're fairly easy to get to (despite all the branches).
I've been eyeing these messed up looking pine at the back of the field, so I took one down, with at least 2 more to follow.

I've been wondering what happens if the notch is cut at an angle, so I gave it a shot.
The tree went where the backcut was aimed, instead of kicking off to the side like I thought.
So now, what happens if I angle the backcut? The hinge controls direction? Presuming no lean, of course.
Still learning here. Easy to play back here, where there's no chance to hit anything important (unless I park the tractor to close).
Pic is washed out, but you can see the angled face cut and the fairly straight back cut.

Most of the branches from all these trees will find there final resting place in the woods.
Sis-in-law has a chipper, but it doesn't work very well or I'd borrow it.
I made some Maple firestarters earlier this year. Don't remember where they are right now though.
I'd love a bigger tractor to be able to push stuff around and dig holes.
The grubs won't hang around too long after the splits dry up....usually.

Looks to be making some nice splits.
Adding to the stacks is a good feeling :)
Should be dry / ready for next year.

    You are tougher than me,
if above 60°, it's to hot to cut wood.

Is it sticky this time of the year ?

It got hot and sticky today.
Got out about 10 until 12:30, then took wife to work @ 2:15, went to my brother's to borrow a hole saw, then went to my sis-in-law's to do some caulking for her.
Came back home and looked at the Pine in the drive and couldn't stand that it wasn't done, so I finished limbing and bucking it.
    Done for a bit.
    I think it's 86 right now.

Don't. Cut it straight and there is much less chance of problems. Besides, cutting on angles does not help and many times works against you.

    Thanks Dennis.
You're right, the angle cut did nothing.

Never bored with so much to do.
All my other firewood has cracks in the ends, so it's already dry. ;)
Figured I'd get some more SS wood put up while it still has a chance to get dry too.:D

firewood making machine wants to make firewood.

After last Winter there's probably quite a few wood burners tending to hoard.
I got lucky and got into a lot of already seasoned wood and have a healthy several years supply but it does seem odd to not have a long row of green seasoning wood to constantly check and monitor the seasoning process.

It's already getting a little warm and humid, so I think I'll get an earlier start today.
Would like to finish s/s the one in the drive, then c/s/s the one laying in the field too.
Forecast changed to a chance for t-storm tonight, but the temp should hover close to 90 today.....again.
    Early it is.
