Interesting to hear about DHT going under. I just went to their website. Can't even get contact info.
Their parent company, Frictionless World, is still in business but is bankrupt. So, sometime last summer, they killed off DHT and a couple of their other underperforming lines without notice. Discontinuing the lines is understandable but discontinuing the warranty coverage of machines that could be as new as a day old if bought the the day before the announcement, is pretty low in my opinion.
Boy Howdy! I agree. A lot of my customers have DHT splitters. I would consider an American made model too, as long as they are made in the correct state. Preferably South Dakota!
Don't get me wrong, mine never gave me any trouble and my warranty was up by the time I sold it. But, I'd be ticked if I had just bought one and then they went out.
Really? So, I made a good decision selling then! That makes me feel good... so I owe you one there! Were they made in the US? I see on their site they state the following but they don't say where they are manufactured. "We design and engineer all of our products in-house in Colorado."
Would have to discount a lot to get me to bite on one without warranty coverage now! Wonder if they are disclosing this? Probably not...
From what I have heard from a few people the beam was prone to cracking. I’m not sure where they were made.
It's on their parent website but I'm not sure a buyer would be notified while buying at Lowes. Heck, I doubt a Lowes employee would even know.
The welds on mine looked worse that those coming out of the local trade high school freshman class...

I have a DHT 35 ton and would never buy another. I had a homebuilt splitter previously that was a push thru with a catcher table at the end I wish I never got rid of it.
It is ok but wouldn't buy another. I had a log get stuck on the wedge and it bent and twisted the part that is suppose to push it off it broke the bolt holes where it is attached to the beam and the log table that extends over the engine broke off I welded it back together. I think it is just cheap Chinese steel. Have even considered converting it to a push thru maybe someday.
Sounds like you saw what I saw. The motor, cylinder, and pump were all decent. It's everything that tied them together that seemed cheap and not very well thought out.
A few years ago these were pushed hard on AS. I was turned off then and have since seen evidence of some shoddy work. Some have lasted “ok,” but MANY have had cylinder leaks and other failures. At one point, DHT was just sending replacement cylinders out as needed (many of which also leaked). That’s probably stopped now due to their bankruptcy issues.
