The 20” bar made it through by working from each side. But my chain is starting to get dull. And more cutting to do. So time for a break and to change it out. Some water and insect damage but tree was still pretty healthy. I’m surprised the wind took it down.

Your lazy makes my best days look bad. Wish I was a lot younger and full of energy again. Keep up the good work, Gas!

I just overdid it bringing firewood in to fill the wood bin. I'd been feeling great, and figured I was good to go back to normal activity. Guess I was wrong. The worst part is that I didn't finish the first task which would have allowed me to get to the next one....playing with saws! :(

Cleaned up and pushed onto the stump with the tractor bucket. 51B7498F-2BCE-40D7-980E-9ADF74644FDC.jpeg Now. We will see how the L39 will do dragging this backwards up to the processing area about 125 yards away, uphill.

A bit over 14 hours into the new year, and I have my first ‘where was your brain’ moment.

I let the stove cool down from last nights fire and cleaned out some of the ashes. Figured it was due. Did my usual ‘start a fire’ routine and smoke is going everywhere but up. Throw open a window, open a door, trying frantically to figure out what is wrong. I’ve had chimney ‘cold plugs’ a couple times and those usually clear out in 15 seconds. The weather today isn’t typical ‘cold plug’ weather.

I spent the next 2 minutes trying to get some kind of draft going. Stack temp is barely at 100, ran outside, no blockages that I can see on the cap. Back inside and I look on the side of the stove and see the bypass in the closed position. Open the bypass, instant draft.

Still airing out the house and am getting the occasional ‘I won’t say anything that I’m thinking’ look from my wife. First time I’ve done that trick in the 2+ years I’ve been running this stove.

I had a hard time getting out of the loading bay with windshield wash yesterday, on account of power steering fluid on the floor. Made 2 or 3 attempts to back up, wheels were turning like mad but didn't move an inch. When I finally managed to get out through the door, stopped and said to our assistant receiver, "oh the sweet smell of success! Oh wait, that's burnt rubber."

I don’t know if my Amish friends will buy them with all the large knots on them or not. I can cut them down close but it was a tree on the outside so a lot of big branches grew all the way up and all around.

They have to get their wood in log form from somewhere. They usually buy from the loggers in the area. One in particular. He is a good guy.

    Very true, Saves...

We had a nice night at home last night. Earlier in the day we stopped at the liquor store about 2:30pm and as soon as we walked in, it smelled like pot. Like mega pot. Someone must have taken a big pull outside and then exhaled inside. Ridiculous. It's not even legal in any form here. Illinois, Michigan is fully legal. Minnesota is medical only, and wisconsin is not legal at all. I've never seen anyone be so brazen here. You can't even smoke inside anywhere in Wisconsin. Then again there's a lot of people from Illinois that visit here, and a lot that "just moved here from Illinois", so maybe they either don't care or assume it's ok. Aside from the beer room in way back, the whole store reeked. Ridiculous.

I grilled out t bone steaks and prepped the lobster tails that were on sale. My wife broiled the lobster tails and everything turned out great.

Usually there's a couple NYE shows to watch with music and guests, but there were less than usual, and less quality for the bands/ singers than typical. Oh well.

I played DJ for most of the night and only stopped my music for the good artists/ songs and had a nice fire in the stove. It was fairly cold too, I think I saw 14° at one point, but after sleeping in this am, it was already 30° by noon.

Here's a pic of Hayden, who turned 9 months on the 29th. 20201231_150230_HDR(1).jpg

Amazingly, I didn't gain any weight this year from the holidays. I was able to get it and cut/ haul/ stack wood, I was able to remain pretty active.

Now I just need to keep active and up on firewood duty. I've got another ~5 + cords I need to gather so I can fill the left bay. Filling that bay will be a bit more work with the snow on the ground. I still have to keep plugging away though, where it gets stacked all in the shed or not.

No. They may occasionally, but many of the Amish here build sheds. And business is good for the ones who do a quality job building them. They need a tractor trailer load of logs at a time.

Wolves chasing you backwards uphill in the snow too.;). Although wolves are less of an issue on a tractor.
