I was chatting with a guy on FB and he was telling me a 200 has triple the power of a 194. He is a professional tree guy. Ive owned my 194 since April (bought new) and like it. Not used a lot but handy when i do. Ive never run a 200. I know the 200 is a legendary saw. Was his statement true? Thoughts opinions?
I though he mightve been exaggerating a bit, but who am i to say. Do yoiu own a top handle Ron? Handy little saw to have and im liking it more and more vs. carrying a bigger one when limbing.
No top handle here Brad. I did have one in my hands a few weeks ago though and can see where one would be beneficial.
I’ve never used a 194, but I’ve used many 200 and 201’s. The 200 was amazing for throttle response and power. Always used them with a 16” bar and cut up to 16”, sometimes beyond depending on the situation.
Ever run a rear handle 200? Ever seen one? He had one, rebuilt, but his asking price was out of sight. What would you consider a fair price for one IYE/IYO Chud
My buddy picked up a used 201 rear handle for $300. I’m going back to this place later in the week if you want me to check for another. My buddy has rear handle 200’s and a 201. He loves them, but I’ve never used the rear handle. Eventually I will get one to complete my pro Stihl cc lineup.
Id prefer to stay away from Mtronic. Ive seen a couple RH 201's for sale but this was the first RH200. He was asking $900 What is you opinion of the 200 vs the 201? Two different animals?
The first 201’s were not mtron. The 200 throttle response was great. The 201 is not as zippy, but feels like more low end in the cut power. No used 200 is worth 900 imo. People cashing in on reputation. I wouldn’t pay 900 if it’s new in the box.
Why are you against mtronic ? I'm kinda liking it on my 661. Ever look at echo top handles? I have 3 and am really happy with them.
Any future breakdowns cant be cheap. Dealer shied me away from Mtronic. Im happy with my 194T top handle but need the equivalent in a rear handle for limbing. I have a 170 but dont really like it.
Lots of that “reputation” selling going on around here, too. The 200 is a fantastic saw for tree work or heavy orchard work. I’ve been into one with a scored top end. They’re built well. Guys who have them usually know what they could be worth to the right buyer; getting these on the cheap usually requires buying toasted ones and rebuilding. OEM only for p/c, lines, etc. We tried a Hyway and it did not last.
Really? I thought a lot of tree guys hate the 201 and want the 200 back??? Not arguing, just surprised.
Depends on who you talk to, yep. There’s an apple farmer up the road from me who loves his 200 and is on his second top end. Local tree service likes the 201 and runs Husqvarna 3 or 5 series for everything else. I see 200s approaching 201t new prices a lot.
There are 4 guys on my crew and no one has said the 201t or tcm sucks compared to the 200. It’s a solid daily runner.
My dealer, going on 50 years (yes I was carried in) told me not to buy one after they came out. But this summer they gave the green light and told me that it's a dependable system and the bugs have been worked out. They are good to me, no screaming deals but outstanding good old honest service. So far I'm really happy with the Mtronic.
Guys that hate the 201 and love the 200 are usually basing that off of the first run of the 201 back in 2013 or so when it had a standard carb and didn't run that great. The latest 201s are tits and run just as good as a 200 .. actually better. After a muffler mod and timing bump these new 201s really rip, I have 2 of them along with 2 194s I climb with, the 194 is no slouch either with a gutted muffler and a timing bump along with a good tune, it's a huge improvement over a 193. You'd have to be a fool to pay what some of these people ask for a 200t.
