So I had about an hour and a half before dark and was able to clear out some downed trees from the last wind storm, and small saplings, and get them out of the way at least. Made some firewood along the way. Then brought tractor in and pushed a bunch of chit out of the way, then cleaned out another 60-70 feet of main drainage ditch. This will really help keep the water flowing by adding more capacity to said ditch and allowing that water to get out into lower area where it can keep going. Good job to get done before all this rain hits and probably the last time to do it before spring. When there will be plenty of water.

It will probably take me another 4-5 years to get all the property drained the way I want it. (Ditches cleaned out and added to. But that’s okay. I can do it a little at a time. I want to clear on at least one side of all drainage ditches so I can mow on that side and keep them clear of trees and brush. That way it will be easy to keep them cleaned out once every five years or so.

Little bay Islands was a community on a small island on the northwest coast of NFLD, but last New years eve it was resettled and all government services etc discontinued. Only one couple remain resident there, off the grid.

    "Little Bay Islands"

"There's a place out west, on the Northern side,
I'd like to visit myself, but you can no longer drive,
    It's a beautiful place, so I heard,
But they cut it off from the civilized world,
Sometimes I think that's my kind of place,
    Little Bay Islands.

Out in the salty waters of Notre Dame Bay,
An archipelago rises from the salty spray,
It used to be home to 500 women and men,
But the times are different now than they were back then,
And I guess that's the nature of time,
    Little Bay Islands.

One industry worth speaking of, one little school,
Dirt roads, and sheds full of hundreds of tools,
Some would say those who live here are out of their mind,
But these people aren't normal, and I say that with pride.
They're as unique as the place they call home,
    Little Bay Islands.

The industry suffered, and many moved away,
When the plant closed, the coffin was just nails away,
And come last year, there was just a B&B,
And year round jobs numbered only three,
And a community lay on its deathbed,
    Little Bay Islands.

A school with 2 kids ain't worth keeping open they say,
And 55 people don't pay a ship's way across Notre Dame Bay,
It's cheaper to pay them for the houses with which they would part,
That's true, I'll grant you that, but it still breaks my heart.
But it ain't the first place like this to go the same way,
    Little Bay Islands.

Last new years eve, the power was turned off forevermore.
And the ferry left the dock and she won't ever be back no more.
They got paid for their homes, and now they have to find new ones to buy.
Take all their belongings, fill a new house and start a new life.
Nothing good lasts forever they say,
    Little Bay Islands.

It's a ghost town now, except for a couple living off the grid.
They chose to stay and live somewhat like our ancestors did.
They don't have a car to run errands or go shopping, that job now belongs to a boat,
They've got an island fortress all to themselves, with a deep blue and miles-wide moat.
It wasn't the first and it won't be the last, and I can't help but wonder who's next,
And it's too bad when the big eats the small, cause with people, less is more and more is less.
    Welcome, population 2,
    Little Bay Islands."

The temps are supposed to crash by Saturday around here - so you definitely will want electricity then.

That's a bit much for 1 person - but I may try to handle it :chef:

Funny thing is, when I let my mom know that my large envelope to her and Dad may be late (no big deal - calendar and cards), she said she is going to make nachos for dad while he watches a later game. That is after they have turkey and stuffing provided by Marie Calendar's along with bagged salad for lunch.

Yup have the generator and transfer switch. But I only have so much fuel and no way to make more if there ever was a long term outage.

    Slept in this morning.

First. Thanks all, for the congratulations. I appreciate it.

Today I’m hoping to get a little bit done outside with the tractor. Looks like the rain is going to come in a little later than they predicted yesterday. But by noon or one o’clock I will have to move inside. That will be when I spend the afternoon in the barn organizing. It will be a good day to do this chore. At 50+ degrees it will be enjoyable temperatures.

Wind is really picking up here. I think I’ll put that tractor work on hold. No sense being around trees in this.
