Had to cut the large branch off of the oak so that I can fall it to make a path for the remaining cherry trees to be able to fall. Head back tomorrow to work on the oak tree!
GREAT load! Can you do me a favor Haftacut ? Were getting snowed in tomorrow night so i wont be able to go hoarding and will be having withdrawels. Could you cut a couple loads for me???
and a true hoarderas are you! Only trying to build your hoard, the dang enabler i am! Maybe ill drive to Michigan to escape the snow and bring some saws with me....and my PU!
Out for another load this afternoon. Cold and windy but the work warmed we well Have about half a load cut for tomorrow when I go back. Trying for two tomorrow. Getting down to the end of the maple. Meant to take pictures in the field but forgot. Got some updated pics at the wood yard though. Ended up taking out the oak on the left and two of the smaller cherries left of the oak. Fell the oak on the right and another cherry. Limbed and cut up the entire cherry for the morning. Should have a couple loads from the oak. I’ll get field pics first thing. Second oak was a pretty good sized one.
Back at it this morning. First pic is what I started with. Second pic is after 1 tank of fuel. Third Pic is after the second tank of fuel. Good sized tree @ 38” diameter where I cut it off. Ended up getting all of it except for about a 10’ section of trunk. 2 loads today. Will go for another tomorrow.
Wood yard is behind my dads. I have the room at my place, but dad has more room for the mess it comes with! I’m sure if it was at my place, the boy would be all over it all the time.
Can’t see it from the road on purpose. There is access from an adjacent road to the back of the property and I always worry that someone would enter there and help themselves. Especially when it is all split. No issues so far
Every time I’ve been out since my last post to this thread, I either forget to take pics or when I get my phone, it’s dead from the cold so today, I made sure it was plugged in the truck so it was ready! Had quite a bit cut up, so loaded the truck and trailer before noodling all the big oak rounds in half. No way I could lift them! May still have to noodle some of the halves into quarters when I go back to load them. Met the farmer out there yesterday, and he said “ you’re really making progress” Told me when I’m done there, he’s always got stuff needing removed. Said he’s got all the wood I’ll ever want! I asked him if he was sure he wanted to commit to that Figure I may have another couple weeks to finish out this fence row. Have one more oak about the size of the one I finished today, need to finish sawing the trunk of the first big oak I cut down, and then just pick at the rest of the small 6”+ trees. I’ll keep you guys posted as I go
You're really kicking azz there sir! Have you tried the Isocore or a maul on the huge rounds? If straight grained they usually split pretty easily. Noodling 3/4 thru then using an ax or maul works well too. Glad to see you section them rather than lift whole. Working smarter is gooder!
