buZZsaw BRAD are you still using that Mueller back brace you mentioned a couple years ago? How is your back doing? I still need to stretch and build my core, lol. Pitiful. I give out too quick, usually, it's my back that needs a rest. At least I have dropped some weight but sure need to drop quite a bit more.

I dont. I was religious about putting it on for my work day as i would put my boots on. It made a difference. One day i didnt and have hardly worn it since. It is in the truck and i do put it on from time to time. I am somewhat mind full when im lifting. Most of the time ill half and/or quarter big rounds to lift and load the PU. I can lift as is but easier on the back. My back does get sore, but nothing like two years ago when i first hurt it. Bending over is a given with whatever i do and that makes it sore. The first COLD day couple weeks made it stiff. So much so i almost used her heating pad that night.
Thanks for the reminder Bill, i need to get back into the habit of wearing it.

In January 2019 i hurt my back and it didnt feel better after a few days. I finally had MRI and disc issues. No surprise considering what i do to it. PT and time made it feel better. My PT was more of the "no rest" for it type and keep going. I did/do favor it when i remember. Im 52 now and forget how old i am, but the back (among other parts) reminds me.

I wear a Mueller every time I have heavy lifting to do with firewood(or anything else for that matter). I find the one I have very comfortable and very helpful and would recommend to anyone. Don’t have any pics to share till I get home if interested in the specific model.

I keep saying I would get a back brace, but have yet to do so.
Growing up I heard from many people "You keep lifting heavy stuff like that you won't have a back by the time your 30" well my back started going out a few years ago but never to bad, little over a year ago I took my back out, not even sure what I did, woke up in the morning and couldn't get out of bed, finally found a way off, once I sat down I couldn't get back up, bend or turn. Sharp pain and spasms.

Hasn't gone out as bad as that again, but I get spasms with sharp pain every time now, I'm 29 right now.

So I should really get one to help slow the damage.

I had back problems since my days in Iraq (2003-USMC). I'm 38 now. I've had mri's and they say I have degenerative disc, stenosis, bone spurs and spondylithesis. I still do firewood for my outdoor boiler but I've had to learn the hard way to slow down and use the equipment I have for the heavy lifting and when I feel that oh sh*t that hurts, I just stop. Back pain is no fun as most of you know. Just an fyi the doc's tell me not to use a back brace, I guess they're thinking I need to build my core and if a brace is needed I shouldn't do it. But obviously everyone's case is different!

It's a 255. Holding up very well to firewooding, which will kill them pretty quick. I do try to keep a layer on top of the brace but doesn't always work out. I removed that triangular pad too.

Back issues are a bummer, that's for sure. I think maybe I am fortunate in that regard. I hurt my back on job a couple of times working construction, years ago. It was very painful and took some steroid shots to get to a point I could deal with it. But it bothered me off and on for several years. I think my injury was more torn muscles in my case, but I didn't know for sure, and never did get an MRI done on it.

It gradually got better over time, but if I lifted something heavy it would come back on me, some. However, since I retired this year and started doing a lot more physical work, it seems to have went away. For years I would wake up with back pain and part of it I blamed on my bed. But for the last 4 or 5 months, I have been cutting and spitting a lot of firewood, and piling up a lot of brush, but I do not pickup heavy rounds like I see in pictures on loaded trucks and trailers. If I did, I figure I would re-hurt my back. So, I always split it where it falls after cutting, or noodle with the chainsaw if it's too hard to split by hand. But splitting wood, swinging an ax and maul, and piling and throwing brush and branches, and loading split firewood and stacking split firewood has strengthened my core and back muscles and I don't wake up with back pain anymore, and I sleep soundly although I am sort of a night owl.

So, I do it for exercise, as much as anything. I always hated going to the gym or walking or even riding a bicycle. I hate exercise for the sake of exercise, and never could keep a routine, but I love cutting and spitting wood, so now I try to do it a little every day, if I can, and it's helping me loose some weight in the process.

Sense I got my iso core, I split big rounds before I move them, and have not been lifting 300 some lbs rounds, that has helped.
But almost every day I wake up with my back hurting for the first few hours of the day.

Same here. A lifetime of working on the roof and some construction have kept my core strong and i guess i take it for granted as im always doing something physical. Id hate a gym or exercise routine. Being outside, fresh air, enjoying natures sight and sounds are priceless and great for the mind, body, and soul.

I hurt my back because I didn't know what I was doing and pushed too hard too fast. After I recovered I used it....until one day I didn't need to anymore.

So very similar to Brad. Now I feel like I am using better technique in all aspects of splitting (moving with a hookaroon instead of just carrying or rolling, way more focused on accuracy vs power when swing the x27, and just taking my time and enjoying the process).

I'd say definitely use one of you are hurting....I feel like it definitely helped stabilize my back until I started to build up some core strength.

I've only used that brand. I've had one prior to this one which I bought several years ago and wore it out.
An older guy I used to work with at the print shop used one and spoke highly of them.
