I am right there with you, burnt 3-4 cord so far my self in the OWB.

Sitting at 29F outside and 69 inside.

OWB is loaded up with shorty's and punky chunks from cutting wood today, no reason to let it go to waste!

Dropped to only 21 overnight. A couple more days of nice mild temps, then beginning Christmas eve.....it'll be December weather!

Before then, we'll get some snow.

24* out 64* in this morning. We have a few flurries falling now but its supposed to warm up a bit. I dont know if it will change to rain or not. It will make a mess of things if it does.

Red maple and walnut in the nc30.

Beauty AM here. 25F and 65F when I got up:eek:. Tree's are covered in a heavy frost from the foggy overnight weather. Looks impressive.
I got lazy last night and didn't reload. 18.5 hrs with a low of 20F let the house get down to 65F! Refired a fresh load on coals at 6:30AM and let it rip for a few hrs. to regain some heat! Brrr. Still gaining. Wife was not entirely impressed.........:D Oops.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one that keeps the house in the 60's. Usually just barely under 70 here.

Yes and no. The Quad was simple and minimum maintenance. Purchased it used for only $500. IS is much bigger, longer burn time using less wood. Was hoping to get more out of the cats than 3 years. Paid around $2,500 so won't really save enough in gas to pay for it, but selling firewood already has taken care of that part. More moving parts and still have to deal with the crack issue next spring. But I do LOVE the IS and I believe the company is first rate.
Would I do things different if I could go back in time? Don't think so.

It started snowing midafternoon, we picked up another 3" of powder. 29* here with Red Maple and some assorted straglers drying the laundry racks. Getting dual use out of the wood, we save about 25 or 30 bucks a month not using the electric dryer. It's a no brainer.

See sounds like alot but I have one 1344 sqft house at 76f rest of 6600 ft average about 60f but I had to start early First week in October this year .. Its 2 houses shop and garage . If you want to compare per 1 house it be 4.5 bundles so far .. burning slabs is a art form because it depends if boiler can go from total spark throwing dragon unleashed
( Control a total flame throwing Beast ) to shut down with out a problem then your ok ..
Might sound strange but 12% to 20% serious heat transfer .. you need shut boiler down to minimum air intake so it's controllable . Mines old school not new epa 2015 . Learning to control it is key any stainless extension with cap slows everything down alot but it's easy to go red and you need close air down more that goes under fire . What I learned you need to watch it close when burning slabs set water temp back 20degree till you see what happens because 10-15 degree jump after fan cycles off is common super cold temps -10f but now remember my fire box is huge 32x54x28 . I sure all stoves act differently. Heatmor 400 dcrss . 3 heating loops average pulling of 219,000 btus at coldest temps .. so stoves at 1/2 capacity . I couldn't imagine the wood it would burn at Max 400,000 btus . 120 lbs a hour pretty nuts lol . On 5 years and working great knock on wood .

Ah ha! Mystery solved! Now I understand completely why so much wood is being used! That is one big shop Heat550 ! Keeping it at 60 ish must mean you are out there a lot!

And good on you for "learning your stove" (OWB) with the slab burning process. Anyone who has burned for years can attest to the need of learning the stove process. Once we are dialed into the stove, life is good!

Dropped to 21 and then wared up to 27 as of now.

I was supposed to get some snow starting yesterday afternoon and continue through the overnight but I guess the snow didn't get the same memo! That's alright! :p

Pretty mild at 34 here. Put in a few maple rounds to keep it going. Expecting some showers late this morning and into the afternoon. Ready for more winter feeling winter!
