I’ve looked at all of my references and I’m not sure what type of wood this is. Location is southern Minnesota
Have you posted this wood before? I’m 1200 miles away, but it looks like Oak to me, especially the bark.
No I’ve never posted this, it cut pretty easy, no smell after splitting and the grain is fairly straight.
Basswood. Pics are of some i scrounged last Winter Splits very easily. Nice and straight grained, dries fast, low btu's. Dried splits are feather light.
Some oak is softer and cuts fairly easy. Willow Oak and Scarlet Oaks in my area are fast growing for oaks. Willow Oak is a lighter color than other oaks. The Midwest probably has hundreds of tree species I’m not familiar with too.
Thanks. Ive learned of it while being a member. The wood is yellowish white and reminds me of EWP. When the bark chips, its brown underneath.
YW! One of my first wood ID threads i posted when i joined FHC was asking about a wood that turned out to be basswood.
I split it up and stacked it in the recreational pile for outside burning. It’s actually nice looking stuff, I was hoping it was oak when I saw it.
Basswood. I make kindling splits with mine as it dries down quick and burns fast. Move it under cover if possible. My picture is a temporary drying spot this summer until it all turned gray. Then it got stored out of the weather.
I was after his pics, rather than yours. I was in question as to whether it might not be Ash. Once the bug hits it, the bark on our trees becomes flaky like that. I figured pictures of his splits will help determine whether it was or not
