The Husqvarna 257 I picked up recently is all fixed up and ready to go. As per usual, I have more than enough saws so I'm reluctantly (again, as per usual) letting it go to someone who'll use it more than I will. For those more familiar with Stihl saws, this is a contemporary of and roughly comparable to an 034. Unlike the 034 it has a decomp valve, which makes starting (and especially restarting) very easy. Like some 034s, the chain adjuster is on the front of the saw. I received it encased in oily sawdust, with the wrong spark plug and a very dirty air filter. I gave the saw a decent cleaning, installed a new plug, and cleaned the air filter. I also replaced the rear bar stud (really a bolt) because it had been cross-threaded at some point, preventing the nut from spinning on easily. I also gave it new bar nuts, because one of the nuts had also been damaged by the cross-threading. Finally, I noticed that the original gas cap was seeping a little unless snugged up with a wrench, which I'm not in the habit of doing. I tried replacing the o-ring, and when that didn't help I installed one of the newer-style Husqvarna caps that use an improved seal. It doesn't look quite right on this saw (both can be found in the pics below), but it works much better. I can change it back if you really prefer the old style. Compression reads a hair over 160#. I sharpened up the chain that came with it -- an Oregon 3/8" chisel chain with about 60% of its life left. That, and what I presume to be the original 20" bar will go with it. Telltale colors say that one edge of the bar was allowed to get too hot at some point, but I don't think it's a serious problem; otherwise the bar is in great shape. Asking $270+shipping.
I thought your header said "In case one 257 on the shelf isn't enough". You're making me crazy here... that looks a lot better than my 257 and it's pulling a bigger chain no sweat... Must fight CAD... must fight CAD...

Tear 'em down completely. Much easier to get them clean then. Stihl recoil covers test my patience......
