Just once I want them to forecast 12” and we get 24”. Maybe it’s just me being selfish and greedy, but I’m a little tired of the amounts called for exceeding what we actually get by double the amount. People around here are forgetting what real snow is. Every 6” storm I hear nothing but crying. They act like a little squall has ceased the years plans. When we framed daily we used to brush snow off the lumber half of the mornings we worked. Part of living in a cold climate. People are babies now. Sorry rant over.
The mega freak out at the grocery store has begun. Im sure as in the past, the great state of PA will unload most of the road treatment arsenal on this storm and later complain that they are low on treatment.
Its amazing isn't it. Every snowstorm they need new snow shovels, new car scrapers, new generators. These people must have a pile of shovels at home.
Thank all the lawsuits and court cases claiming responsibilities and seeking monetary compensation for losses and injuries due to inaccurate and inadequate weather forecasts and warnings and/or lack thereof.
Started the morning at 2 to -8 depending on what you looked at, 15 right now. Burning oak and maple in the OWB, house is sitting at 69F
FIRST FIRE Sposd to be 2 tonight, it's time. The (wood) boiler room is up to a comfy 90*, good bye clothes dryer and hello wooden clothes drying rack and nice warm towels . Another treat is using as much and as hot water as you want in the shower using your own home grown energy . The shop is @ 65* and the house 78 and yes, kids are long gone, were in the middle of the woods with not a neighbor in sight and let's just say, scantily dressed. Now it can be winter.
Probably do better to go see their doctor for a chill pill. Probably what they really need! Snowflakes
I'm grateful to have well seasoned wood. Was -5*F this morning. Cat's love the wood stove too. The one in the bed along the stove always gets excited when I go to make a fire. If we are looking for him and we have a fire going, need to go look in that bed. It's his spot. Primarily burning Oak these days. Stove has been going non-stop for 48 hrs now.
Looks like 6 out there at 9:30 PM. Ash and Beech in the Wood Gun. When it gets near Zero I turn down the Thermostats in garage and above garage to lower temperatures settings so there isn’t such a call for heat over there. The bubbling goo monster has turned on a couple times already. Now that thermostats over there are down the Wood Gun should get a chance to catch up.
It is just at freezing, with snow coming in. I have a twelve hour burn of hickory and ash staged for me to stuff into the dragon.
25F with high teens projected for dawn. I just got home and brought the stove back to life with Red Oak, Black Cherry and Ash. It’s 67 indoors at the moment but I can feel that radiant heat working it’s way through the house.
This. And the fact that their "real" job is no longer forecasting weather but selling advertising time. I have been reminding people a lot in the last few years that the "news" is usually nothing more than hyped up drama to sell commercials. It really is all about the Benjamins these days
