If it is blocking the public's right and ability to use a sidewalk, the tree, or at least the part that is blocking the sidewalk, the town/city may have jurisdiction. Does your town/city have a Department of Public Works, or whatever government agency that would be in charge of operating and maintaining public access/right of way infrastructure ?
They may not give you explicit permission to remove the problem for liability reasons but they just might tell you how to or not to proceed.

Quick update. I found the landowners is a machine shop whose property circles around a few houses. So Monday I'm going to check with them...maybe now that I know its not a residence I think they're less likely to raise a stink about it

Updaye I got permission to take the wood..
But I can't cut on his property. Fortunately thee main trunk is on the sidewlk for the most part. There were some smaller pieces (6-8ft long 8in diameter) that the utility company cut and threw back I grabbed. Now having saw troubles...these Stihl flippy caps are ticking me off.

I wouldn't go on anyone's property. That is trespassing. Having said all that, you could technically cut on the sidewalk, you'll just need to pull the tree each cut onto the sidewalk. Also, Hi-vis makes you invisible.

Hi-Vis does not actually make you invisible, you will need a clipboard and a traffic cone as well as the Hi-Vis to achieve invisibility.)

Great that you got permission. Always makes me feel better when im cutting on someone elses property. Are you aware of the FHC liability waiver form Ohio dave ? I used it once last Spring when a homeowner requested it and have offered it up at other scrounges.

You are quite welcome sir!:salute: Handy to have when you scrounge like us!
Ive offered several times on potential scores. Last Spring a fellow FHC member and myself both had to have a signed one to cut and haul some wood from a score i procured. The property owner had a nice house and appeared well off and i dont blame him. I take no offense if someone asks me to sign one.
