It's all about stacking space, isn't it? I lie awake brainstorming new places in my yard to stack wood.
I hope it all melts, too!

I should have brought back more.

It was too nice outside. After a few cold days and nights, the rounds split apart so easily.

    Even through crotches.

Above freezing temps will remove existing snow, where these splits will be stacked. Between 2 trees, at the far end of the woodyard

    Those crotches are pretty cool!

I got a call from a buddy of mine that has an F250. He wanted to know if I wanted to get some wood moved. Indeed I did.

So, off we went for the red oak at my SIL's.

    Two PU bed loads
    IMG_20201213_084907879.jpg

Both loads unloaded. Rounds, halves, and branches to the left.

    What's left, you say?

Still cutting and splitting of the big logs and rounds. As well as a pile of branches.

It's good to have this inventory here at my place. I can split and refill racks as they empty.

Looks like you still have your work cut out for ya! I love the feeling when you set up a crotch unsure if it will split or end up being one of those impossible to open pieces and it snaps wide open on the first hit:yes: makes for some pretty grain patterns too! You got it home now and that’s half the battle, keep up the good work, mike:salute:

Best to get it home before it gets frozen in place!
Now if snow is expected, you can just throw a tarp over it.

Good idea. Although, a tarp ove the wood might be more "NH" than a naked pile, eh?

And yes, snow is forecasted for mid-week.

I went to my SIL's this morning.

    Used my new timber jack
    IMG_20201226_081756247.jpg IMG_20201226_082012246.jpg

I thought I took a pic of my morning's effort. But I didn't. I was able to cut up all the remaining logs, and quartered them to facilitate vehicle loading. Pics when I get to move them. The ground needs to dry a bit, and freese solid.

Those rounds look like they will split easily. How did the timber jack work out for you?

I was cracking them apart very easily, with the x27.

Its a Woodchuck Timberpro. I was about at my max pulling those logs up off the ground. But jt worked fine. Easily met my expectations.

Nice! Is that your first time using one Mike? I got mine for Christmas couple years ago. Dont use it a lot, but handy when i do. The "T" log lift is removable on mine. Great tool though. Kinda wonder how you did without it?

Unwrapped yesterday. Got it dirty today.

I've had a peavy for awhile, and it's very useful for rolling logs. First time using any kind of a hack.

If the logs were any bigger, I may not have been able to power them up to be jacked. Nice to have the logs elevated and off the ground.

It's always good to have options. It takes a few uses to know how best to use it and when not to use it.

    A fine start to 2021.

All the remaining wood had now been moved to my place.

Three loads. First, all quarters. 2nd was quarters and branches. 3rd all branches.

    Quarters left for 2nd load
    IMG_20210101_091618366.jpg

    1st load
    IMG_20210101_091633020.jpg

After 3 trips, I again have inventory!
    IMG_20210101_110143045.jpg IMG_20210101_110150770.jpg

    And nothing left behind.

I suspect this will be the last update to this thread. But, you never know. It's been fun.

Always a relief when it's all safely home! Now let it rain, freeze, snow, who cares, it'll be waiting for you.

    Exactly.

She's got other trees to come down. Standing dead. On the list.
