Sure do make some nice few Jeff, but can't imagine needing it for anything more than the smoker or the pit in GA. Of course I'm looking for shade at 'bout 72*
...that's what I hear y'all say...we're made for hot weather...it will get in the low 20's or sometimes a teen. It will be colder where we live down in the bottom than here in town where I work. We have had pipes that had foam insulation freeze and burst here at work. That customer lives in an older house too.
Had some time last couple mornings to get more hickory processed and oak delivered... Shed when we started Had 6 rounds to split, needed to move ramps so we could load the truck with oak from the shed behind Miz Carol. I had already split 1 before taking the picture... Had enough in those rounds to finish the stack, I might throw a little more up there. Moved the ramps and loaded the truck with 18" oak, got it delivered before time. That's why I like night shift this time of year... Got home from work Saturday morning, loaded truck again with 16" oak for a new customer...they were really happy, would definitely be calling us again. We got back and we had time to 2 more 9' hickory logs. Got 12 rounds ready for the splitter now. That stuff is HEAVY. Tractor would barely pick up the biggest log with the forks. Had to use the huskihl XS362 with 25" bar to handle those.
A labor of love! Those splits look awesome in the back of your truck ID be shocked if they didnt call you back. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, they mentioned before we left, wanted to know when they could call again...she said its the first time she's ever had to buy wood. Her dad used to cut it for her, but he passed away early this year...
That’s one of my favorite parts of selling firewood! Yeah, you run into some odd characters, but most of the time, it’s appreciative customers with a story. Really enjoy it
Yep, we have a long time customer like that. He moved his family up from FLA, first met him, he said he didnt think it got that cold here in GA. They live back in the piney woods, in a building like you see on the Lowes or HD lot. Pretty much off grid. Wife is a nurse in a dialysis center...
Never weighed any, but from handling them, yes ma'am...it is heavier. I know dry, it's heavier than oak.
Only had maybe 2 hrs to play...er...work on the woodyard yesterday. Managed to get 6 hickory rounds split and stacked. They were 20-23" dia and totally different, both came from the same area by the driveway. First couple rounds split like oak, straight and smooth, next ones were almost as stringy as elm... Turned out a nice amount of wood.
T.Jeff Veal Do you have a picture of the ramp you use to get rounds up to the splitter without rounds on it? Looks like you have things on there to prevent the rounds from rolling back down. Thanks
