The light bars aren’t necessarily flimsy but will get a bit floppy on the nose end if you are cutting a tree that is smaller dia. at least that’s my experience. Also the solid bars are not as prone to damage if they get pinched. My Tsumura bars are not as bad as Stihl bars but I just prefer my GB bars for felling.

    JimBear,
Are you saying that the Tsumura bars are better than the Stihl Lightweight bars? And please excuse my ignorance, but what is a GB bar?

I like the Tsumura LW bars better than Stihl LW bars, they are better in my opinion. Personally I don’t really care for Stihl bars in general.

Here is a pic of a 20” GB bar. They are a very rigid bar & often heavier than most other bars. The rails wear very well, they seem to be made of a better material & harden over time, not mushroom as bag as other bars.

Congrats on the new saw....i'm still stuck in the 60cc range... its been almost exactly a year since I bought my last saw. I have so many between 45-65 cc that I always resist the urge even to add new "good value" saws to my lineup. Holding out for a very small range of saws... the 440 and 460 series from Stihl, the 372/572 from Husqvarna , or a Echo 680 or bigger...

Generally 100% of wood i cut is at 24" or smaller so with with a 24" bar on a 60CC saw i do just fine (i tend to be quite consistent about keeping sharp chains).

Interesting; I have never seen that brand of bar, in my area, but then again, Stihl and Oregon are about all you see around here. And nobody keeps a lightweight bar of any brand, even the bigger Stihl dealers. They even act like they have never even sold or or ordered one in for someone.

    Who sells GB? I want a 16” .325 .63 for a 261 if they make them.

They (GB) used to be available online, and very very cheap. I had two but they went with saws we (my son and I) sold. Now I can't replace them.

The only GB bars I have seen are 3/8” x .05” & .058” but maybe a different vendor carries them. You might try looking on Fleabay for a .325”.

The following link is where I bought my bars & a lot of my Carlton chains, it looks like they have sold out of several sizes of Carlton chain. Their Carlton chain prices are great but shipping can be a bit pricey unless you buy a lot or get a couple other folks to go in together & split up shipping.

Oh, I have mostly vintage Plumbs, True Temper Kelly Perfects, Collins, and the only new one, (recent vintage) is Grandfors Bruks Small Forest Ax, which I always keep in my side by side. It cuts all out of proportion to it's size, but of course it's really more of a large hatchet then an ax.

The lightweight bars sure are nice for limbing, and just make the saw easier to carry.

Yep, and I like the idea of it, so I can run a little longer bar, without making the saw so front end heavy. I ran all three of my saws today. I started out with the 261, for some smaller wood and to see how my latest shapening job went, as I did something a little different, and went to a 3/16" round file on the .325 chain. It seems to have worked great!
Then I went to the 362 to fall a tree where I had to cut it off pretty high but I wanted more reach, and then limbed some with it. When I got to the trunk, I was getting low on fuel and switched to the 462 with the 28" standard weight bar for bucking it up, and even though it's heavier, I love that long bar for bucking, and the extra power helps keep me out of the pinch, sometimes. That long bar, even though the saw is heavier, is still easier on my back, when bucking. Obviously, I could have done it all with a short bar, but I just love the longer bars, and not having to bend over as much.

I have a 28" Tsumara Lightweight bar on order. I am looking forward to getting it.

I wondered about that because you can't turn the screw very much as is. Where is that pin located at? Is it in the manual? I guess I ought to read the manual. I didn't bother, since I already had two previous Stihls.

It’s right next to the screw. Push it in and you get another 1/4 turn.

I found it, today. I finally looked it up in the manual. I haven't decided to push it in an turn it yet. I may be getting enough oil. I am using about half a tank of oil to a tank of fuel, right now, I think.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
