Does that do anything but hide them from your view? I’ve done the same but noticed the ad was still there while browsing on another machine.

Not 100% sure? I "believe" it sends a message to Craigslist that they are BULL$#!T.

From what I gather, CL has to get multiple reports on an ad before they pay much attention to it...but that was back when they were doing well, so now, who knows, they may have a monkey running the place...

About 2 years ago I started falling for the same one. ( white, Chevy,) cheap, military, eBay warehouse, being transferred.... blah blah blah. See them all the time now that I know what I’m looking at. This one was Craigslist

I've noticed some interesting postings on FB Marketplace. Usually, they're pretty easy to spot.Pics will tell a lot; a really nice condition whatever for a very low price. And/or pics that were clearly not taken in the area where the item is listed. "Hmmmm, a concrete driveway and palm trees...in Connecticut?" Another sure sign is someone asking to contact them via e-mail; big red flag. I report what I feel is fake/scam in hope it helps.

I’m not 100% sure but I think the more times an ad gets flagged,,,,CL mark the accounts email as spam.
10-15 years ago when I opened a CL account I was running an online store and eBay business. I’d run ads all over the country to get traffic to my store (you have to pay for this on CL now, which is still a bargain). I used a whole separate email for this account and a couple other business accounts . After a few years I couldn’t send out an email from this address without it always going to recipients spam box . Had to quit using it.

    Solution?
Just say no to CL, to FB, to online scam media. Remember Mr. CYBERSECURITY.
Some of us have too much on our plates in life to spend diddling online.....except for practical, real world, experience-based info in sites like this....sometimes good.:woodsign:

On another note...anyone notice things seem to be slowing down on CL these days? Seems most of the selling action is on FB Marketplace.

oh yeah, been going that direction for years now. CL charges individuals for auto ads too. ErikR did they charge for the kawasaki ad? I heard the are charging for all street legal motor vehicles, but I doubt that they are charging for street licensed motorcycles. Boats, ATV's snowmobiles, no charge still, I know that for sure.

I didn't realize that! Very interesting. I have to imagine the ease of FB is causing the slide as well. They do make it rather easy to post something, then communication via their own messenger app.

the messenger app is really easy to use. I think that feature alone has been the reason I've sold most things on FBM while cross posted on CL as well.

This fall I was looking for a garden tractor/snowblower combo. Contacted a few sellers on CL and Marketplace. It wasn’t a ‘is it still available’ or ‘what’s your lowest price’ message, just asked general questions or if a time could be set up to look at it. Never got a response and it was at least four different sellers I tried. Maybe they sold them, forgot they listed them, who knows.

Saw another listing in early October pop up that I didn’t respond to for a couple days. Finally sent the guy a messenger message on a Monday evening asking a question about the blower attachment, he got back to me in about 15 minutes, told him I wanted to look at it but couldn’t make until Wednesday and please let me know if he sells it before then. He held it for me, drove there Wednesday evening (about 70 miles one way), it was what he said it was, handed over some cash, loaded it on the trailer and came home.

Now I just need some snow so I can try it out (it’s a John Deere 316).

Those are the best deals, ask some questions, get a quick reply
Set a time to meet, cash, load outta there!
    Works nice buying or selling

Came across too many people asking a million questions when a 15min drive would save so much back and forth

Just found a set of 5 wheels and tires for the wife's Jeep on FBM. Ends up he was about 3 miles from our house. Met at his place, checked them out and paid, then he says he's late taking his wife out to diner, could we please turn off the lights (to the horse stables where they were kept) before we left as we had to load them in my truck. Super nice guy, just like most people in our neck of the woods. I then followed up after they were mounted and thanked him again. A lot can be taken from the conversation you have with the seller and FBM is different in that the seller has an account that can be viewed prior to the transaction, if you wish to do so.
That was Friday, so Saturday I drove an hour through MD to buy wheel adapters to fit a different bolt pattern wheel to ours. Found them on FBM. I use it quite a bit.

FBM seems to have cleaned up a bit in the past few days. Less scams it appears. At least I haven't seen them.

The facebook marketplace in my local search area (~20 miles) is consistently offering Echo Saws (590, 400, 310...not the bigger models) listed online still in the box. Generally they are listed for about 30-40% off the retail value. I very seldom see a stihl or husqvarna still in the box for sale... like 15:1 vs the echos. Anyone have an idea what this is about?.. are these scams?

My all time favorite was a CL scam I saw. Guy claimed to have a new in crate 1968 Sears SS15 garden tractor. Ad stated you couldn’t open the box until it was paid for and he had left. Seriously WTF. He was asking something silly like 8k. I counted the inaccuracies for fun. The SS15 was only made for one year, 1972. The “crate” was a modern plywood box that I know they wouldn’t have used back then. The listed engine was wrong, no pics of said machine, etc, etc. I’d love to meet the guy, grab his collar and say you ain’t going nowhere til the crates opened and the police arrive. Im sure it’s a box full of rocks. After no one fell for it the first time he tried again several months later.
