Norway is considered an invasive species in some states like MN. Article. And here in NY it's a regulated species. It beats out the sugar maple because of its shade tolerance. But I'll take all that I can get. The tree guy came by today with the locust and looked closely at the splits from this thread.......and he said he thought it was red maple still. Hahahahaha. I give up.
This is the red maple I got back in April. The sap wood is very white and meaty and the bark peeled right off......and it was straight grained compared to sugar and did not have that cross hatch pattern in the heartwood like sugar that I know.
