Looks great Sailrmike ! Again, nice work!

My wife and I stopped by the orchard today. Looks like a lot of the trees in the two rows perpendicular to the road have been cut. Granted, it didn't walk that far up in the wet ground with just sneakers.

They have a backhoe in the rows parallel to the road. Best I can tell, they are cutting the trees at the base, pulling out the stumps and leaving the rest to be cut.

when we were there it looked like they were just pushed over. This was the last rows perpendicular to the field.

My last orchard haul, we tapped out at 54 trees. I did have my sons help then and our trees were bigger than yours. How many did you guys take each?

Ill bet its pretty muddy in there now. I still would like to go back but work has been busy. Have they bucked the trunks free of the rootballs? Has there been a lot of cutting going on?

You're right about overpowering the food on smoke. Im more so in the boat with oak. Using any of those are very very powerful smoke tastes on meat. Apple was always a good medium. Plum too. I would recommend apple over Oak, only because its easily able to be managed of taste. Oak is much more acrid, if you want smoke from oak, go finger stick size. Nice Thread Skier76! Im late to this party, but the apple is amazing. Too bad Im in WA, Apple capital of the US.

I did not unfortunately. Between the snow and a busy few weeks at work, I never made it back. Oh well! Glad some fellow Hoarders here got after it!

One year later, I’m giving this thread a bump
Here’s a few splits from this orchard score, which I’ll be giving to my uncle for cooking his turkey tomorrow.

Kinda wish i had grabbed more despite the major PITA it was to get, harvest and split. It was too muddy later on. Is applewood smoked turkey good? Ms. buZZsaw loves applewood smoked bacon. Me, i love any bacon!

I cooked my turkey last year with mostly apple wood plus some hickory and cherry. Great stuff  The bulk of my apple wood (3/4 cord) will go straight to the wood stove though. I love walking outside and smelling a load of apple going.

Boy I love smoking with Applewood. Never really had a bad mix of food cooked with it. It's simple but the wood supply isn't enough for heating. I get some areas aren't big on bbq, apple is used for that. But it's too much of a sin to have it go that way. Best saved since it works with so much food. Its favored for wood fired pizza.

When I make bacon my favorite is apple - wood.
Haven't made any lately but have a few buckets of apple chunks to use for the smoke.
