    Considering a Tecomec (Italy) P/C kit from WEM for a 246 to 242XP conversion to run against my 543. We'll see!

    We had a Tecomec P/C last for 4 years in an 036... original small air leak probably wasn't fixed, but it cut a lot of wood before getting scored up again. I'd say try it!

    Funny you should ask:
    In my re-build of a 460 (complete tear down... split the case, used a salvaged cylinder), I noticed the Hyway base gasket didn't easily fit over the meteor piston. Now, I bet one could have put the base gasket on before the piston install, but I've never had to do this before. I compared with OEM and there was a difference in size! The bolt holes lined up ok, though. I ended up re-using the OEM gasket. Almost went without gasket...
    After reading on a failed case gasket (MasterMech), I didn't trust the one in the gasket set. I used OEM and got it for $5.95 from my dealer. All in all, I only ended up using the seals from that set... it's my first problem with AM and probably not a big deal. I'm not a huge fan of their muffler gaskets, but I'm sure they'd work.
    On this saw is my first AM intake boot... fit seemed ok, rubber seemed ok, fit was great to cylinder, seemed "ok" at the housing.

    Like I've said before, I'm willing to try stuff out and hope for the best. Threads like this (informative, honest, open-minded) are very helpful to anyone that repairs/rebuilds saws...

    I have been using my ms650 recently and notice I can only get about half a tank out of it before it leans out like its out of fuel then I looks and there is like 40% left. Oh well fuel up and go. Same thing for several tanks. I just figured the line was bound up in there. Well I finally pulled the line out to look for damage and saw the end was split where the filter goes on.

    It was the aftermarket line that came on the handle when I bought it from Huztl a year ago or so. I got about 10 months out of it.

    So what do I do put another AM Huztl (farmertec) linne on it that I had in my stash so I can get going.

    Clean split. I run NO ethanol fuel or so the sign says . On my stuff I run it in I have not seen fuel line deteriation.

    I was hesitant to use an AM fuel line, but I'm trying a couple out just to see how they hold up. They looked fine and fit perfectly. We'll see...

    I just rebuilt an 026 and 036. Aftermarket seals and gaskets ok with no problems. Aftermarket ignition coils ok but nothing fancy and working so far with good blue spark. Meteor piston and caber rings which seems top quality. Hutlz plastics ok but not exact fitment of oem by far and not as rigid as oem. Aftermarket air filters- JUNK!!!!

    I was hesitant about AM fuel lines cause when my 390 got a split in the line a few years back I chases the lean condition and thought it was a carb issue. Wasnt as good a two stroke mechanic then. Anyway found it was the fuel line split and once fuel got a bit low it sucked air.

    Ordered one off eBay. It let fuel leak out of the tank as the grommit did not seal well. Guy sent another and it leaked as well. So I sent them back for a refund and bought an OE stihl...no problem and was the same price. The AM line in my AM tank handle on the 650 does not leak :D

    I used a HLS boot on a 372XP rebuild, looked good but would not seal against the carb blew BIG bubbles in the P/V test. Put on a new collar still would not seal, threw it in the trash and used OEM, no problems. No more Chinese rubber or plastic parts for me!

    I did not like the AM fuel line I used on a 390. It tended to kink and I just could not get it to lay correctly. I paid through the nose for an OEM line from a local dealer (still kinda hurts.... And this was a year ago!) to get the job wrapped up and delivered.

    How much did it cost you for it MM? I got mine like 3 years ago or maybe 4? I think I paid $5-6 for the stihl oem line.

    IIRC it was 16$. That particular dealer is known to overcharge a bit. :jaw: But when he's got what you need to move a job today.... :zip:

    I don't pay near that for them normally. But the saw needed to move pronto.

    I've had troubles with AM mufflers falling apart from poor furnace braze or lack there of.

    Now when I purchase I add some braze myself so pieces won't get lost or burn something. Then that cheap muffler could get expensive.

    I had an aftermarket intake boot slide off the the cylinder flange and the clamp cut it all the way around

    Bonnie, you might try this, put the gasket on the jug, drop two bolts through the flange (helps to keep things aligned) then slip the jug over the piston.

    My experience with AM McCullough fuel lines get the same results as setting a 10 dollar bill on fire. :rofl: :lol:
