2 Sundays ago we had some very high winds. Brought down alot of tress. Since then Ive been kinda stirrin' about this 3-4' soft maple that snapped off and fell across the creek below the house. It broke off about 10' up , The wind carried it down over a 20' bank and it landed 3/4 of the way accross the creek. This happened about 100 yards above a large bridge that is the short access to town and main road. 2 times this bridge has been put out of service (6-8 months for repairs) for repairs and once in the early 80s it completely washed out. The detour to town is an extra 3-4 miles but the kicker is a 3/4 mile hill with a 15% grade. Being in the snow belt this hill is impossible covered with snow. The one time it was out for repairs it cost me a ton of money in fuel and time accessing my trucking companies yard multiple times a day. I ended up renting a yard in town so my trucks didnt have to take the hill. Anyway ,,, for the last 10 days Ive been having nightmare of this tree washing down into that bridge and daming up with debris taking out that bridge. Yesterday I told the neighbor of my fears and he said by all means remove it . So today me and the boy went swamp logging for firewood ! My Movie 2 - YouTube My Movie 3 - YouTube My Movie - YouTube
Kid and I were on our cans going down the bank. He “walked the plank” going out on the tree in the water to hook chain. Took a length of chain and some cable to get it up bank. He thought it was pretty cool.
