Thank you Rope and a Happy Thanksgiving to you as well, and to everyone else here as well. It's 33* here now and raining, 59 inside and rising as the stove enjoys it's morning feeding of Red Maple.

 

44* out 73* in.....I did not put any wood on the coals this morning. It is supposed to stay warmish today but rainy. Maybe later I'll stoke it up to take some moisture out of the air but we will see.

32 and cloudy here. I ran a wire through the brick to the firebox so no burning until our new insert is installed. It is Regency from Canada and it taking longer than expected to get it shipped down.

-77* is the coldest ambient and well into the -130*to -140* for the wind chill. The further from the equator you get the more things change. For instance with Alaska being up top of the planet by the north pole in the winter the sun rises and sets and the moon orbits. In the summer the sun orbits and the moon rises and sets, that's due to earths rotation on the axis. For instance the aspect ratio of sun is off the charts add that to being up top of the planet Alaska is closer to the sun than the equator. How that feels to the skin is when the sun is out summer say 60* its so damm hot in the sun light, then walk in the shade and its chilly. I would say my 75* is your 100* The pizzing and moaning starts at 50*. by 80* it to hot, to much effort to bitch that in full sun.

My record cold here, that I've seen at my house is -22*. Of course up to my camp by Well Seasoned place, well, that's tee shirt weather. They are all out grilling in shorts and flip flops.

The station must have at least a VHS copy of Backdraft, might even get to the end before someone with at frozen turkey decides to deep fry inside the garage.

 

Ha ha. Yep! The city lets us kind of do our own thing on Holidays. They don’t pack the holidays with training, meetings etc. So we will probably watch some movies and eat some good food. And yes, inevitably run a turkey fryer fire or two

 

The water in my rain barrel is frozen, but the skim ice here on the bigger lakes just north of the Twin Cities comes and goes. North of here about 100 miles I have heard that there is 3-4" on small lakes and some of the bays.

My wife and I are driving up to Hovland and our cabin tomorrow to straighten things up after fall hunting. We probably won't take time this trip to check ice for spearing on some our favorite small lakes.

 

What holiday meal is not memorable without some kind of drama? Is there a better science demonstration about volcanoes than putting a mostly frozen turkey in 350* oil? Especially if there is something overhead of the fryer that is say possibly combustible? A couple gallons of boiling oil running down the pot to be caught on fire and spread to the 20#er, so it can launch like a missile. Good times.

IIRC I saw -50 on top of Jay Peak with 4o mph sustained winds gusting higher. Wind chill was written... ridiculous
