Started packing the basement with splits today. I was surprised to find a very nice mix of wood! Primarily SBH with a mix of apple, white and red oak plus a few maple splits. This should make this new to me England’s furnace very happy.

This is apple that I processed 4 years ago.

The SBH is 3 yrs seasoned. It’s at:

Bring in the cold weather, let’s do this! I’m going to go check a split of the oak out of curiosity. But 13%.. :dex:

How were they kept prior to you bringing them in? Shed/covered stack/uncovered?

Whatever your doing it is right.

Double split "privacy fence", top covered with rubber roofing material. What I am burning this season is the grey middle section. When I add to it, some wood gets left in the row so the existing "green" wood doesn't fall or need moved and restacked to get all the seasoned out. That's how the apple still exists. (hope that made sense)

But yes, my "system" is working very well. I can get red oak down to acceptable levels in 3 years. This wall of wood gets a really good amount of air, and full evening sun as there is a field right next to me.

Agreed, that's about as dry as if seen without a kiln. That'll make great heat for sure!

No creosote there! Just bright, billowing BTU's.

Yep, we'll be in shorts all winter with a window open, lol!

I was expecting 15-17%. Last year, if memory serves me well, the pieces of hickory I checked were 16-18%

The hot dry summer did wonders at drying here also.
