My buddy picked this up after a yard sale, it was being thrown out and he wants to work on it. Some sort of brush cutter? Anyone with info, fill me in.
Reminds me of one I had, only my blade looked more like a traditional saw blade, not a chain saw blade. It cut small stuff up to about 1.5 inches thick. My has an arm and a shoulder strap. I haven't seen them on the market for a long time.
Just an old weed eater set up with a blade. I had e one of those saw tooth blades I found on the road somewhere?
Had a Husky with that type of a blade on it. Like anything else, it was good for what it was good for... 1/2" alders would slice right off... 3/4" and it had to cut thru like a circ saw, not so good. We changed the head to whacker string. Never put the blade head back on.
Sweet looking old machine. I have a couple blades for my one wacker. They work well for the small stuff, but even cutting small stuff, it will tend to want to jerk out of your hand. The same way any saw is dangerous. . Just because it doesn't seem likely to happen? Doesn't mean that it won't happen. That's why everything has guards on it these days. Even though your holding your saw with both hands doesn't mean it won't still kick back and injure you (or worse).
Ive used one of those quite a bit !! It has its place in my arsenal !! Better than bending down for the small stuff
That's the attitude that gets people hurt. You should have a healthy amount of respect for any tool with a blade/chain and/or moving parts.
I started work with a cabinet maker when I was 14. Using all the saws once shown how and what to watch out for etc. So I have used a table saw on and off for 18 years. Not a lot but used them most of my life. That is one tool that I still get uncomfortable around.
Those blades have a way of walking into things quick... when they get snagged on something while really rippin. Feet would be the weak spot for sure. I remembered when we were using one at the farm, after a while I was swinging it side to side, taking as big a swath as I could while walking slowly. My son hollered at me and I swung around. I stopped short, but this thread made me think that coulda been bad. Bottom line, I think all of us know these spinnin blades and chains are out to get us... Payin attention is a gooder thing.
I can see where the handle bar would be a good thing. Help it from being pushed out our hands so easy
That blade is made to be used on a brush cutter with u handles and a harness.A lot of brush cutters or clearing saws come with blades with 80 teeth for cutting small trees. I like this type of blade better because it is easier to sharpin with just a round file.I have used these blades with great success on clearing land of small trees of 5" on down.They would definitely be dangerous with out the harness and u handles as they can kick back.With the harness and u handle they are safe as long as nobody else is close by.
