Fall made its triumphant return last night. 24* out 64* in red maple and walnut in the nc30 to warm things up again.
Only 37 out, 74 inside. Glad I only put 2 beech splits in about 8:30 so it didn’t get too hot. Just enough coals to keep it going this morning with a couple hemlock splits. It’s a hemlock sort of day, around 40 with a chilly rain. Forecast looks like the stove won’t be going out for the foreseeable future.
The coldest I was on this mornings commute was -2* the OWB has a load of spruce keeping a nice 72* inside.
14 this morning at 4:40am. Room was 67. Stove was full of orange embers. Easy re-light with a load of pine board kindling and 4 splits of 3 year old ash and white oak.
19 here for my walk. Had to shovel the deck; more of just pushing the shovel since it was less than 1". Not even worth mentioning............Crap! Already did!
A light shower went through. No fire overnight but was 66 inside this morning so it did not take long to get the stove warmed up.
It’s a very damp 36F here and I’m overkilling it with a roaring fire of cedar, tulip poplar, black cherry and sugar maple. There’s a solid bed of coals established so now it’s time for some shut eye.
Leylandii for me , it’s what dries the quickest , smells of lemon when it’s split . 12c and raining in the Uk , 30c and dry inside Gonna set a tarp up and split the free stuff Iv had given and got round to cutting yesterday
34 out 76 in, just put a couple hemlock splits on the coals. Windy and mid 40’s today, probably stick to hemlock until tonight.
20 outside and no fire overnight again. Should have been though but the stove is going nicely now. On a bad not, rain tonight followed by high wind and tomorrow is opening day for rifle deer season. Does not sound good and more wind during the week.
Heavy frost dripping off the metal roof this morning. A NH mix of maple and oak in the belly of the beast. It will be a nice day to make some firewood.
Definitely went overboard. The pieces were on the smaller side though, not much bigger than kindling.
12 degrees now. Burning a load of lodgepole. I need to let it burn down. I bet I have a five gallon bucket full of ash that needs to come out. coffee first
