Really considering a Super Jolly from Maverick's. It looks like everyone else is pleased with there's. They seem to have the best price I've found. $288 +-
I got this last year, with the portable stand. I added a diamond wheel. It is not auto feeding, but I can get my chains sharp and with straight cuts. My logger/firewood buddy tried it on his processor chains and loved it. I kept my Oregon mini for heavy grinding and dirty chains. I converted a chain to ripping recently and it was great. Seems like a few guys I know rush and get uneven cutters and heat up the chain. Good luck
I’m about to purchase an Oregon 520-120. Am I making a mistake? I don’t think I’ll need the hydraulic clamp, I’m only planning on sharpening my chains that I use to make 5ish cord of firewood per year and around the yard. I was using a guy to sharpen but he got a helper and I was charged to sharpen a chain that was clearly not sharpened so I guess I’ll just have to do it myself.
I don’t know that it would be a mistake The hydraulic clamp though is a bell or whistle that is for sure worth considering. It’s not like an extra you may never use. I don’t know what price difference your seeing. I got my SJ around $270, and it was a good deal.
Tecomec makes Oregon grinders. Usually the Tecomec model is 20-30% cheaper. Like getting a free hydraulic vise
So do to various reasons I don’t think I want to spend the money on the chain grinder right now. I did however pick up a Stihl 2 in 1 sharpener I do a better job with it than the regular old hand file. I dropped 2 loops at the ope dealer me use for work. They asked when I need them back. I said I’m not really in a rush but is a week enough time. Oh yes they said. Went back in a week they had not been touched. They said if I wait they will do them, I passed. All set with a rush job. I’ll keep looking for a reputable sharpener. There gotta be an old buck around here that has the time and the know how that people today seem to lack. I’m fairly young bu my wife says I’m starting to be a crotchety old man. you just wait my love.
After I broke mine I just use my clamp on sharpener guide with a file, works plenty good enough for me.
I’m pretty ok Hand filing to the right side not so great on the left. I’ll just have to practice more.
Warner How much do you think postage would be to mail your chains to GA? I'll grind them for you. Or check out Jeremy Cole. Great Christian guy https://www.razzorsharp.com/
Wow, thank you. From your posts you seem to be very busy I wouldn’t want to burden you. Your offer is greatly appreciated! razzor sharp looks to be a good option. Thanks for the link as well. In the end I’ll buy a grinder I’m just cheap. Takes me a while to part with my hard earned dollars.
