Volume of a circle = Pi * Radius Squared.

Volume of a cylinder = volume of a circle * height.

Since a holz hausen curves slightly towards the center, you lose a bit, so yeah, it's a bit of a guesstimation....But my 8' diameter x 6' height hold right around 2 cords. 3.14 x 4 x 4 x 6 = 301.44 cu. ft. A cord is technically 128 cu ft. Assuming it holds exactly 2 cords that's 15% loss due to curvature and also for the loose stacking I do in the center (typically oddballs, shorties, uglies) and so that sounds about right to me.

Well it happened to me today. Went outside after 3 days of rain and wind and noticed stack #18 partially collapsed. I did build it on a slope and didn't pay enough attention to the angle.......and this is what happened.

Took about 40 minutes to restack.

That will happen just from shrinkage as the splits dry out

Perhaps but not in this case. It was the slope and my lack of attention. It hasn't happened to any of the other stacks.

I'd believe that if every stack were to have suffered the same fate.

My landscapers have not been around.....and we have 50,000,000 trees here......so imagine how many leaves fall every fall!!!

    You win!

    Har har har

The only tree I've cut down is a small japanese maple that got split in half lengthwise when the white oak snapped off. I don't cut down my own trees because I don't need to. That said, I just filed the permit to have the 2nd half of the white oak cut down.

And stupid me before I knew my arse from my elbow I had two 75' red oaks cut down by a different tree service and they hauled away all that wood. :headbang:
