Nice looking wood Rope! I see some paper birch mixed in. Sounds like you’re settling into your new home pretty well. I’m glad for you guys. Great to have such a good young helper. Not very common these days sadly
Mom and I are very blessed to have 4 great kids. J is 9 and loves anything outdoors and its a bonus for him is a motor is involved and its some peril is involved. His older brother is 12 and is a great help more to his mom. Sister is 8 and is a great help with her 10 month little brother. They are a blessing and bring great joy---most of the time.
Most of that is white birch with a little spruce. We are getting settled, Yes sir its great to spend some time with him.
Right now it’s fall leaf color. The bark is different, the wood is not as dense. It resembles Pin Oak, but the leaf is wider. Got most of the tree in one load.
Did a little scrounging scouting yesterday afternoon and saw this new maple blowdown (it was 17 degrees, windy, snowing, and I didn't feel great so I didn't grab anything yesterday). Felt better today and it was a calm and balmy 20 degrees so I headed up the mountain this morning. Not sure if the maple is red or silver (leaning towards silver) and it was a labor of love but it's great hardwood. The base was about 200 feet upslope and each round had to be rolled, carried, or tossed 3 times to get to the road and then loaded in the truck. Had the mountain to myself all morning and it was good exercise so it was an enjoyable time. Grabbed some beech and white birch on the way out. The life of a scrounger (and firewood addict).
