Edmund Fitzgerald sank during a huge storm.

Backwoods Savage , were you living in the U.P. in 75?

That year was spent near Gaylord then north from there. I remember that day well. Wind was terrible. I was working that day near Hillman, not far from papadave place, but he was still down south.

Yeah, a really bad storm here in the U.P.

Stands out in memory because of the tragedy.

Super windy today as well in Wisconsin. We had tornado watches today and apparently had a 79 mph gust at Milwaukee's airport. We're supposed to have 40-50 mph gusts until 5 am or so.

I was like 8 months old when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned on the news tonight, despite the 2 hours of weather people talking about the weather.

The song was released a year later in 1976.

I know USS stands for United States Ship, I think SS stands for Sailing Ship and/or Steam Ship :usa:

HMS", stands for "His/Her Majesty's Ship :uk:

    yeah, SS is steam ship
SV or S/V is sailing vessel
MV or M/V is motor vessel
    All propulsion monikers

Government ships have their own acronym for ship ID

I was a few days from turning 3. I remember well the debut of the song, as we grew up on the Long Island Sound and my father was a part time lobsterman. Storms rolled in and churned up the Sound quickly, so we were always alert to this danger when out lobstering.
