Do you cut the bladder kitty corner and use that as a roof?

I agree but have maybe five cords of nuggets with little room for more wood.

I get it. With all the space I have I don't need to be selective. You guys on smaller lots don't have much of a choice.

A hoarder should never be involved with storm clean up. I can’t stop hauling trees home. I. Can’t. Give. Up. Please send an interventionist!

Splitting by hand tends to motivate me to keep less uglies. I do still have my fair share, but I usually only keep them if they are dead standing or easy to whack.

Came to the wrong place if youre looking for an intervention. We're a bunch of enablers here. Go get more. Trust me i know the feeling. Still a glut of wood from Isaias and the tornado for the taking! My BL yesterday was from Isaias.

Ok, but I think my daughter is worried about me. She says I have enough.

    Nothing to fear amigo,

All part of the hoarders evolution. Perfectly normal. At first my wife shook her head profusely, with wild concerned eyes. "When's it gonna end? Isn't there enough wood!"

Then after several more failed attempts to "cure" me she finally gave up

Now she brags about my wood to family and friends. Tells them she cant believe how much wood I have and how impressive it is. Even sends them pics.

Now the family and friends are the ones who shake their heads. That's alright though. I don't really give a f***. They better hope oil prices remain low.

Its not so much about you having too much as much as its about her not having enough. Its all about perspective.

Chud She might be more receptive of your answer if you quantify it a bit. Just tell her you will have enough when you get 2 more cords:whistle:. You will always need another 2 cords no matter how much you have:yes:

My wife and daughter both come out to greet me when I dump wood. Deep down I know they love having wood piles everywhere and me.

On a serious note, I think there are a percentage of women that really like woodsmen. I know my wife always stops and watches when I'm splitting wood. She has told me that she doesn't want me to get a hydro splitter because its not the same.

Wrist size especially if it’s birch as birch here has to be split.

Yes on the roof. If you look closely, I believe #7 and #8 (from left) are loose thrown shorties, nuggets.

There ain't nothing wrong with spoiling yourself if you split by hand like us!!! Anybody who has a problem with that can have a nice conversation with the sharp end of my x27.:dex:

It is most definitely not the same. You don't get that pop when a split finally splits, you don't get to smell the wood because you have the fuel and exhaust fumes all over the place, and usually if I'm using the hydro it's because it's a crazy knotty or crotchy piece and they typically get disintegrated. I have one, I use it, I love having it, and I love maintaining it. That said, if I can split something with an x27 or a wedge and a sledge I will always choose to do it by hand if I can. That said, if I am tired and it's getting late or I had a rough day the previous day, I'll switch to the hydro but I certainly don't enjoy it as much.

I prefer the mechanical splitter for several reasons.

*My wood is processed to 20", not 14"-16" like most hand splitters process to

*I don't cherry pick the perfect knot free rounds. I split it all.

*I don't have much free time. I need it done as quick as possible. Working full time job, family, 21 acre property I maintain without hiring out basically anything. I'll be dammed if I'm gonna miss out on my kids growing up because every free second I'm hand splitting firewood

*Old shoulder injury gets aggravated if I do repetitive motion all day

*I burn 8 full cords a year. If I only went through 2-3 cords, maybe I'd fell different, but 8 is a lot to do with the other above commitments

*I don't have the desire to hand split. If I want to get frustrations out Ill go to my dungeon gym and throw heavy iron around. Repeatedly bouncing a maul off a round and having it ring through my body isnt appealing to me

    To each their own
