Locust mania that is! Drove by this right after TS Isaias back in August. Was in an area i dont often travel couple towns over. Maybe half hour from home. Had no time to check it out then as all of it was in tree form blown over. Fast forward to last week. Picked up a small multi day job not far from it. Some had been bucked into sections. Stopped last Friday and got okay from homeowner to park, cut and load in his yard. Finished the job today and had some time to cut before dark. Turns out to be five trees blown over. Two had been partly sectioned and pushed into the woods. One was roadside cut into sections plus the trunk. Loaded 2/3 in the yard, but parked on the road to get the roadside rounds. Some the bark was coming off and BL is some stanky stuff when the bark is loose! PU! 361 cut the load. Marked my cuts and one landed right on this hook. Marked from the other end of the log. Built in handle! Has to be at least two more heaping loads there. Ill be schlepping logs out of the woods as its down an embankment (groan) The mania continues!
I was worried you were slowing down. When I joined this site, it seemed like you had a bl thread every other day if not daily.
Oh trust me the OCD hoarder i am may have waned but the BL mania is there. Life, work, weather and lack of daylight have dictated my hoarding efforts. How common is BL in your area Chud?
Nice Brad. They should split nice for you. After archery I'm off the BL wagon. Think I counted 11 of various sizes that are standing dead, down or leaning on the property.
Lucky you have it that close to you. Its scarce around here. Small groves here and there usually in abandoned lots, along highways or RR tracks. Isaias and the tornado we had three weeks later made more available to me. Still have to work to find it. My work takes me on all different routes locally so i keep a keen hoarders eye out for it. I have three areas i can cut close by but a lot of work to get it out. Dang mania! ain't it great!
I said the same. This "round" from March 2019 looked like one too! So much so i actually posted a thread about it. There's a mushroom on my oak, hey wait, my oak is a mushroom!
Split the load, moved, and stacked it all. Before After Almost full. All black locust. Finished stacks are 6.5' x 12' so when full close to five cords. Little more needed. Dont know if he'll give me room for another rack. Got plenty of BL available to scrounge to fill another or two, up.
