Now that I am retired, we can talk our walks in the daylight. So as we headed out, I took some pictures of some of our route. Before we start, there is always cookies when we get released from our leashes. Headed out into the bush. This will take us to an old logging road. This is my usual view of Allan and the dogs. I make sure that no one is left behind. A shot of the old logging road with the alders piling on the ground. No pretty yellow and red here, just brown. Cricket is leading out. If we weren't on the road, this is what we would have to plough through. We need cookies!!!
We are walking through an area that was logged in the 70s. There is swamp on either side of the roads through here.
Congrats on being retired. I’ve got about five more years to go. Don’t no if I’m happy about that or not but I’ll figure it out. Keep an eye on those critters. Thanks for the pictures looks like fun.
Thank you for the pictures and the tour! I think I could like that area. You have given me an idea and one of these days (after hunting season cools off) I just might remember to grab a camera and go for a walk around our place.
We have a variety of accessible woods just a short walk from our place. One area is second growth from a logging cut in the 40s. You have more visibility but the ground is very uneven. Again, an old logging road provides access. It has been too wet to venture into that area.
Part of the trail we walk is through second growth timber that had its start in the 40s. It is quite dark most of the time. campinspecter and I came across a small tree that had fallen across our trail so we went out to take care of it. campinspecter put this trail in to connect to another old logging road. I didn't get pictures of the second road. Another time. The trees are mainly Western red cedar, hemlock and the occasional Douglas fir. The evergreens have overshadowed and killed most of the alders that would have grown up here after the area was logged. The clean up crew. There is always a reward for anytime campinspecter stops. Hard to get good pictures of dogs in motion. the power tool of choice today. It is a jungle out there. Very difficult to get around in. yes, there is a trail through there. Evidence of past logging slowly disappearing into the woods.
Nice of you to clean up the trail. That is a good lookin' brace of sled dogs you got there. The darker timber looks similar to where we hunt for chanterelles. Are there any mushrooms there?
I have spotted some chanterelles (not that many) and what I think is a death cap. There are lots of what I consider non-edible ones around. We walk fairly quickly as it is our exercise regime so I haven't done a lot of real looking. I think we are the only ones using this particular section of the trail so keeping it up is for our benefit.
You would think so with the swamp and all the moss but it actually isn't a problem. It is really nice in winter with a touch of frost on everything.
Thanks again for the post and pics! Do you have any pics of campinspecter just relaxing? Poor guy! Give him a break!
I had my toenails painted by 99 lbs once when I fell asleep like that! Not giving you any ideas or anything, but pics required!
campinspecter must have heard about that. He keeps his shoes on! He usually has a body guard as well that acts like a hot water bottle snuggled up beside him.
