From the same property I got 3 loads of oak the past couple days, comes 2 loads of black birch. I never burned much of it before, but from some research, it seems to be pretty good. Free wood is free btus. Now if only these good scores stop popping up, I can get back to the old honey do list.... And get me some birch beer
Only thing is it rots quick from the inside, so make sure to split it fairly quickly after cutting it to length
BB is good to work with. Love the wintergreen scent. Burns nicely. As mentioned, don't let it sit unsplit.
Thats an excellent score. Nice and straight too. Birch is great firewood. Dries in a year after CS. Any birch is a rare scrounge for me. I see the new truck has been put to work right away! Havent had birch beer in ages. Have to pick some up.
is black birch the same as black cherry (or choke cherry? the stuff that puckers your mouth if you eat them). Sure looks the same from the bark
They do have similar bark, but they are not the same. The Black Birch has a minty smell to it. Like peppermint or wintergreen
Looks great! I love it when the tree guys bring me that stuff. Getting it green and healthy is a good thing, it does not have pockets of rot in it.
Went grocery shopping tonight with Ms buZZsaw. Was in the soda aisle and thought of this thread. Rare that i drink soda. Seltzer is my carbonated beverage. Thanks and heres to you and hoarding wood Pricey106
I worked in Worcester for a couple years. I still drive by the inflatable “Polar” bear mascot every day on I290
When we first moved here there was a grocery store that handled a local made soda in returnable glass bottles in a little wooden frame. You returned the frame of glass bottles when empty and got a new case. We stopped drinking soda and there is still a case of empties buried in the garage. They had a lot of the "old-fashioned" flavors which was the impetus for indulging soda when we were otherwise on a low sugar diet. The bottler is likely long gone as the grocery store hasn't had them for quite some time.
