Homes are selling and closing super fast here in this state. In our neighborhood, the house behind us was sold and they are moving in in another week. 2 weeks from accepted offer to move in. The offer was accepted as soon as the property was listed. It suits for 110k more than it was bought for only 2 years previously.

Its been 120 days with no alcohol for me. I think the longest in my adult life.

I always drank too much, never could stop once I started. It got worse last spring, way worse, the weekend binges became daily. I fought with my demons within but was losing. Then on July 5th when I was drinking the 4th beer of a six pack, I said to myself why, I'm gonna sleep like crap tonight and feel like crap tomorrow. I poured it out and there are still 2 beers in the fridge.

Since then I sleep better, like a rock. No more of this waking up after a few hours and not falling back to sleep. No more disturbed sleep. I feel refreshed in the morning.

I had a physical about 60 days in and told the Dr. that I had stopped drinking completely. She gave me a look like 'You did that yourself.....Thats pretty good'.

I lost 3 notches off my belt. I'm reluctant to buy new jeans but its looking like I need to. I still could lose 15-20 pounds more.

I was getting takeout the other day from the brewery where most of my drinking went on. (and I got a root beer). I hadn't been in there for 6+ weeks. The manager looked at me and commented on how much weight I had lost. Which felt pretty good.

I went to my camp a few weekends ago. Where beer consumption traditionally started upon arrival and went on till past midnight on Saturday night. Nope, didn't want a beer. Didn't crave. I was up at the crack of dawn and had three great days. Worked my azz off getting some wood, clearing trail and digging in the dirt fixing a drainage issue on a circa 1800's farm road. Activities that in the past would have triggered me having more than a few beers starting in the late afternoon.

The cravings are now much less, almost none. And when I go get them they are easy to control. They pass right by. Before it was like they were putting me on autopilot to get some beer.

I hope I can keep it up.

CONGRATS! I have been sober for 2.5 years now. I was extremely depressed and tried to treat it with alcohol. Bad move. Got to the point I was trying to commit suicide with the stuff. I walked into rehab on my own. I am very proud of you for doing it on your own with willpower! It’s not even a thought now and I don’t miss it. I have lost 85 pounds and except for arthritis I feel great. I sit and read about people’s drinking on this site knowing damm well they drink too much. If it’s not a problem then take a break for 6 months, show me. Not my business though. If anyone here wants advice about it (including yourself) I am an open book. The first thing you learn is honesty when you get sober. I can go on and on but I will just leave it that I am here for anyone struggling with alcohol. Again, awesome life decision!

Good job! You can keep it up. You are through the tough part.

I have one beer now. Sometimes two, then I’m done. Time to eat dinner. I do this less often than I use to. Feel better than I use to.

Good for you! If a guy like me can do it, you can too. It's daunting to stay sober "forever" so we have to break it down to the 24 hours in front of us. Don't drink TODAY. Tomorrow tell yourself the same thing. Eventually the days turn into months, then years, but the philosophy is the same. Keep it in today. I've been on this path for a decade now and although I've stumbled along the way, I've gotten back up. I won't drone on and on about my war story, but I will tell you that for me, the absolute best accomplishments, good times and most grateful moments have been in sobriety. It's amazing what we can do when we take all that time and energy we used to put into seeking oblivion and put it towards being productive human beings. Best wishes on your path brother. You're not alone.

Very good, I too hope you can stay away from it all. For some, that is what it takes to keep from falling back into the old routine. Your real friends won't entice you. Keep your faith in yourself. Avoid stress as much as possible. Check back in and let us know how you are doing.

I didn't think about it before but I believe me tossing the beer that night gave me a 'hard' starting point instead of just waking up feeling like crap and saying to myself that I got to stop doing this. And then repeating the same cyle over and over again. I think that is what got me over the threshold, because relatively speaking its been easy since. Although I did drink many gallons of lemonade for a while there too. But that was a lot cheaper than beer.
