It splits easy and smells really good, dark brown heartwood. I’m leaning towards black walnut, the one piece I split did not have the pith in the middle. So that’s why I’m not completely sure. Thank you for your help.
I gave a bunch of that away a couple years ago. Someone else had cut it but was too long for our stove. Never missed it.
Yep. It’s black walnut. It’s very rare in my area. But I’ve been able to get a little bit of it. It burns well. It’s highly sought after by woodworkers too!
Definitely black walnut, cut a fair share my self in southern Minnesota around Mapleton, it's ok but not my first choice of wood. Better for wood workers.
Black walnut, decent wood. If you have any crotch or crazy grain wood, see if there are any woodturners in your area.
I took my buddy out there and we loaded him up for his lathe. I do woodworking myself but I’m building benches and tables for outside use.
