Hurricane Zeta blew over us yesterday and the wind was bad. I did get one blow-down; too bad it didn't put the dead trees on the ground; I have been a bit nervous about taking the dead standing trees down. The tree had a fork and of course that meant it was going to lodge in another tree. I am guessing that since the tree is up high that I may have to take down the maple it lodged in but that means the maple is under stress so that worries me. Advice is welcomed on procedure here. I may wait on dealing with this tree to allow time for the root ball to settle since some have said that a tree can snap back upright when cutting.

I'd start cutting at the trunk end, carefully. Then, work up the trunk.

Definitely cut the rootball end free first. I had one up end on me. Could have slingshot me into the next county. Luckily I was off to the side enough that it didn’t hit me, only caused me to chit my pants.
