I put one of the stands I got from Lowe's on Black Friday on some blocks and it worked quite well for a wood cradle. It also covers the engine so gives it some protection form an errant split. The light weight of the stand did allow it to shift a bit at times but no big deal to shift it back in place. It made a big difference when splitting horizontally.

I got one of those last year on Black Friday also. Great idea, I'll have to give that a try when I get out splitting the rest of the '22 / '23 / '24 wood. The engine on my splitter sets up higher so I'll probably have to use it on the other side.

Thanks for posting that. I never even thought of it... I had picked up mine for working on the pick up truck engine since it sits up higher than my older trucks did.

Now that is an idea; if I put one to my side then if I have help, they can place the wood on the stand while I am splitting.

EDIT: I am having trouble posting what I want! Keeps rejecting it.

Trying to post a link to a Lowes item, it is a stand that could work better. Here is my text without the link...

Say, that is a good idea and I might can make it better. I needed a stand like that but I needed it to be higher. It appears you do, too! I found one at Lowe's that telescopes to a higher lock-in position. It has 300 lb capacity and height is adjustable. (I dunno why the link says 225 lb capacity, the copy says it's 300 lbs.)

It's not accepting my link it appears. It is Item #900589 at Lowes, Werner work platform for $110.

Try again -- nope, won't work.

    Try an image --

Now that is nice but a bit more than I would want to pay for one; the stand I got was only around $20.00 during the black friday. I did think that maybe I could bolt on an extension that would bring it up to the correct height using some pieces of 2x4s but still allow it to fold up for storage when not needed.

$20? Sheesh, that is dirt cheap! I can't imagine a price that low, wow. I do know that some stands like this are not very sturdy, they bend easily.

This was a Warner stand. Lowe's tend to put them as part of their Black Friday deals each year. I have gotten several over the years. One is currently holding the trumpet assembly in the shed while I wait for my parts to be transported down; which should happen in a couple of weeks :rootintootin::banana:. I am thinking they were rated for 250 lbs.

Yeh, I made a special trip into Lowe's last year just to get one cuz they were such a good deal. My wife thinks I'm nuts going out on Black Friday, but I think it's kinda fun... Not sure if I'll go this year though... I only get stuff that is crazy cheap. These stands are actually pretty sturdy. I was impressed.

Lowe's would put their Black Friday deals active at midnight. Last year anything I wanted I just ordered online after midnight and then I could pick it up later in the day after the crowds dissipated. I noticed that the Black Friday deals at Lowe's are not as great and I may not bother this year even to get the cheap poinsettias for 25 or 50 cents. I have become pretty much a hermit this year due to everything that is going on.

Must you pick them up Black Friday only? Could you get the good deals ordering online, shipped to your house?

I am hoping Milwaukee puts some cordless tools on sale.

I use one for the mitre saw when I was rebuilding the steps to the front and side porch. I use some clamps to hold the the saw in place. I had to kneel to use the saw but it still was useful because I don't have a saw stand.

You don't have to pick up on Black Friday, you can pick them up any time within the pick up window they give; which may be a week or two weeks, not sure. You may have to pay shipping to your house but yes, I think that is also possible.

I picked up a $10 mitre saw stand at Menards a few years ago on Black Friday and use it often. Kinda cheapo, but it works fine for me. It folds up and even has wheels. If I was using it everyday, I'm sure it would get replaced. Our area hear is a zoo if you get there when the store opens but usually clears out fairly quickly. I usually wait a few hours and show up late and get through the stores without much problem... although it's more fun being elbow to elbow laughing at the people that are taking it way to seriously. I've only missed out on a couple things over the years. I wish I would have gone straight to the pallets of $10 LED shop lights at Menards a few years ago. I got the last 2 that weren't smashed out of the 2 pallets they started with. Everytime I see them on sale for $25 I could kick myself for not getting a bunch of them. They work great.

Now I'm getting excited thinking about what might be on sale this year... LOL

Yes, but I am wondering how it is going to be this year with all the social distancing rules etc. How will they be handling it? Only letting a certain number in at a time or what? I don't know anyone working in retail to ask what they are hearing.

I'm thinking I'll stay home and do the cybersales this year. I'm not a scaredycat, but I'm not gonna push it either. I'm sure every state will have their say on how it get's handled.

Just looked at the Black Friday advert for Lowe's. I think they have gone insane. This year the platform is on offer for $44.00 I won't be visiting Lowe's on Black Friday this year; there wasn't a single thing in the advert that would pull me in to shop. Home Depot is a lot further for me to travel; not sure I want to bother.

Mmmm; I am thinking they may have adverts for different areas of the country. I may or may not have been seeing one for my area.
