I’ve heard it to....I have....I have. Probably good in a way, keeps it a nice little secret so everyone in your area isn’t looking for it.

I may...may have seen a Osage tree in my work town. Not entirely sure.

I voted for one, white oak. Didn't see until pressing the button you could vote for more. Was surprised hickory was not there. I could have voted for several, lots of good tree species for firewood! Around here, bois d'arc (osage orange) is plentiful in the Red River Valley but they don't grow tall. I also see an occasional one in the hills but I've never seen a huge one. One reason I chose white oak is because you can get straight trunks with good limbs, too. Some trees have good wood but are susceptible to being not so straight! I like looking at gnarly trees for cosmetics but not for splitting!

American beech, sugar maple, white ash and of course black locust got my votes. Easy splitters, season in a year.

I voted for white ash. I also didn't see that you could vote for more than one. ash is usually nice to split, fast drying, good coaling with a lot of heat. Unfortunately, it's mostly gone in my area, as I'm at the EAB epicenter...

I voted for American Beech but also didn't notice that you could vote for 4 of them.

Ash and silver maple are my choices. Of course, out here on the prarie you gotta take what you can get. I'm going to cut up big Cottonwood that fell down about 5 miles from my town. Its laying in the ditch. I'm sure the farmer won't mind

The real winner isn't a choice on your list. It's Shagbark Hickory and it isn't even close.

Of the choices given, obviously lodgepole. The rest are growing so far away that could never afford to heat with them.

I remember visiting my inlaws in Toledo and reading for the first time about EAB in the Blade. They were talking about cutting all the ash trees in are to control it. Rudy's Chili dogs for the win.:dex:

Indeed Hickory is an excellent choice. One of my personal favorites. It does have downsides though. Bark is tough on chains, bark makes a mess, bugs like the wood, rots faster than other some other hardwoods like Oak or Locust, etc. Kind of funny that Boxelder and Lodgepole made it into the finals, but Hickory did not. The best candidates aren't always the one you can vote for

    ;)

Ahhh Maple the wood you’d love to hate. That’s all I ever get free is yard trees, twisted a hundred crotches and MOOSEKNUCKLEs. Yet I’ll take it every time. Burns hot enough, just doesn’t hold over real well in the smoke dragon.

Looks like Red Oak, White Oak, and White Ash are barreling towards the finish line.

The suspense is terrible....I hope it'll last!!! Without cheating and googling it, anyone know the movie?

Can I get a do over, so I can use my extra votes? I only voted for 1. Never was good at reading all the directions. The eab puffwood can’t beat my oaks!

I voted for Red Oak, sugar maple, white ash, and black locust. Red oak used to be 95% of my stacks. It splits easy, I love the smell, it puts out great heat, and it’s all around here. The drying time doesn’t bother me because I’m 5-6 years ahead. I have a lot more white ash than I used to due to the EAB. I love the way ash splits and it’s drying time. Sugar maple is another that splits great and dries fast - just not as common where I am. I haven’t burned much black locust but I remember it splitting easy, drying fast, and putting out fantastic heat.
