I continued limbing the poplar tonight. I safely used a ladder and kept the rounds small and manageable. Above is before and after. I'm getting up early to complete the tree. Hope to be done by noon.
These were pretty close to the house. When its done, ill continue on the diagonal NE line of damage. I feel like more will fall. The poplar was in a wetter area I stay out of, and it definitely protected the younger trees from the wind. I think more to fall before they get bigger getting more sun now.
I'll be dropping that and a maple due to damage. The maple has a heavy lean from this huge poplar, and the hickory lost a lot of bark on the eastern side.
Take you time. Slow and sure will get it done. No need to must a nut on something that isn't going anywhere but in your woodpile.
Good shoulder wood and getting a stove going; I have about .5 cord in the barn ready for the up coming season, but I wouldn't want to be dependent on it in the dead of winter.
Guy I know calls it "gofer wood". Fill up the stove and "go fer" more. I like it for shoulders though. Easy to process, and dries quick. I've still got a decent size Poplar at my sis-in-law's I need to get back to soon, before it rots.
Ill use it between the firepit uglies and ss wood for 15/16. I'm going to end up having a ton of it. Hard maple next, shagbark, and oak. Ill be busy awhile.
