my new splitter exploded a high pressure line while trying to get through a huge “pine” round. Just missed my mother’s head who had just wandered over to see if I wanted some help. I don’t split those knotty junks anymore.

So it looks like what you had to to be able to load the larger pieces was manually split them? Sorry if a dumb question but am learning that side.

Yep, some I had to noodle, some I split with a wedge and a sledge....and it was a good learning experience...Because I jinxed myself and said "Man this is so light, it's going to be super easy......" and of course those were some famous last words. Even after splitting them in half it was work to lift them. They were huge.

Thanks for the response. When you try and get wood by yourself (which will probably be my case) you have to do that vs. when you have two people.

Yeah I was there by myself several times and split them until I could lift them. They were cut just too damm tall for the diameter they were. Tree guys should have known better. The lady of the house told me the town wouldn't take it because it was too heavy for them to lift.

I also made the mistake of inviting a friend to help and he ended up picking THE worst round to try and promptly got 2 wedges and 2 mauls stuck in there as it was getting dark. Sometimes it's better not to have help hahahahahaha.
