Knocked the spark arrestor screen off the dual port muffler on my 440.

Got a new one in yesterday.

I was watching a Mastermind 461 build video and the same thing happened while they were doing test cuts so I know I am not the only one.

I was wondering if more aggressive felling dogs would help keep this from happening again.

The problem is mostly with the screws. I had one drop off on me and I managed to find it and replace the screws. IIRC I used slightly larger screws for a better hold.

No shelf queens here. Bought it off CL a couple years ago. Outside wasn't great but it tested at 165 psi.

I was wondering about the screws. Since it doesn't look like they pulled out. I paid more for the new one and it came with more stuff. Ie new gasket. And looks better built and better paint. We will see.

Smells like a good time to pull that can and open up the side port a bit as well as that narrow slot. Fatten up the high side after as necessary. If you drop in a new spark plug, get a reading after a few good cuts and tune for that tan/brown look.

If you aint forced to run them where you cut I remove them both. If I order new aftermarket I order the kind without them (customers decision every time).

    Last 2 on 440 and 046.

I pull them too. They create restriction. Ever put a fire screen in front of your fire then remove it and feel the difference in heat that comes through it.

Thought about pulling mine off the 359.
I did put a non cat muffler on it, seems to run cooler now.
Book says to pull & clean it frequently. maybe pull, , cut off the screen, no more cleaning needed :)

Lol, Forage Farmer, you loaned out a dual port 440 mag? Seriously? Did you get a call from the Vatican requesting your co-operation? Somebody asks me to borrow a saw, they get an Earthquake 3814. That is, provided the pope calls. You wanna borrow a thousand dollar saw, plan on leaving a $1000 deposit. Don't have a G laying around you can afford to lose? Me either. Sorry, but I do have this Quake...

And a 28" ES light bar on it. Oh my gosh what was I doing? On the plus side I have a buyer if I ever want to sell it.

I was taught to never lend out anything you can't afford to lose. So most of the time I say, "that sounds like fun," & offer to help or quote a price for my help as appropriate. There are lots of places to rent equipment but if I don't think they know what they are doing I will generally try to help out.
