We have to have something plumb in this old house.

Laser line is to mark reference lines on the wall and floor for the width of the hearth. Once the stove is moved away for the build these will be essential.

Progress has slowed to a crawl....too much other stuff going on. Did manage to get this done today though.

Our house is 62 years old and things are out of square and out of plumb. The redo of the bathroom drove us crazy. There are some things I just had to let go of at the good enough stage to make it work. A little mud and wide taping knives helped a lot. Lol

IMG_0004.JPG 64 out and having a small fire outside. Ash, spruce, red oak, and sugar maple. Other than getting darker out sooner, I'm wondering where autumn is. I'm ready whenever it decides to show up! Knowing New England we'll probably go from 60 and sunny one day to 20 degrees and whiteout conditions the next. I can only hope :)

Can you get a cup style wrench on it? Those work pretty well usually. This one is $5 at NAPA...you buy the cup to fit the filter...or you can buy a whole cup set...usually comes with 10-12 different sizes...a set like that will fit most common filters (except diesel/heavy equipment)

Cautiously optimistic right now... just met 1/2 of the new neighbors.
He's an Aussie from E. Bay Calif., only using the property for "holiday", which is good. Nice guy, still haven't met his wife but not an issue.
His buddy is Denver based and will be spending time up here to keep an eye on things. Nice guy also, but not a mountain person.
Guess we'll see how this goes.

It doesn't have a cartridge oil filter on it? I'm surprised as most euro cars have those and not a spin on filter. What model mini and engine?

Well, your other neighbors are bears. I mean they wreck bird feeders and make other messes. How bad can people be?

Sounds like a good place for a remote oil drain kit...basically a hose to somewhere more convenient to drain to...and then just a valve to open to drain...a real lifesaver for hard to access oil pan drains...surprised it didn't come with one.
You can put a remote oil filter kit on it too...those are slick!

I have an understanding with the bears, my previous ( interior designer men neighbors) yeah, not so much.
    *generally they were ok, but......
edit- To clarify my statement, they treated me as a subordinate whenever I offered help.
After a few occasions where I dropped trees for them, and was told how to go about things, I stopped interacting with them for the most part. They are gone now, so a new chapter begins.

Ahh, couldn't he either get a k&n filter with the extra wrench boss welded on, or better yet, a remote oil filter kit??

Thanks for the links. I look when I put it away. I should be able to take the filter adaptor fairly easy. Going to take the screwdriver to it tomorrow,
