Earlier in the week I delivered about 110#s of Honeycrisp apples to my logger buddies and they said, "want some oak?". Since I was going anyway, I took the trailer. Normally I get log cut offs which are very large and harder to deal with. This time they had CULL LOGS! Threw so many on the trailer had to use straps to contain the load. It was so nice, got another load the next day. The wife made a fresh apple pie bars that we ate for desert at lunch time. Only two loads so far but these are piling up wood FAST. Started using the loader tractor and it has speeded things up a bunch and eased strain on me. I cut into rounds on the trailer to contain the saw dust, roll into bucket and drive to the pile for very easy unloading. BTW, one trailer load makes one half cubic yard of sawdust.

The trailer was ordered with upgrades. Twin 5200#s axles and the cross bracing underneath is 12" on center. Split rear ramp with knee bracing rated for 7,000#s.

I've known the loggers for quite a few years and have gotten to be good friends. I meet them for lunch on the landing often even during the Summer when I am not cutting. The thing that really helps is getting an in with the landowners where they are working and getting permission to clean up log landings. There is a LOT of wood left after the loggers leave.

Yup, that's me. That nickname came from a tree service guy. To those that didn't hear the story:

One day they were cutting down a huge black walnut down the road from my house. I stopped to inquire if I could have the wood and the head of the crews says: "Hmmm your one of them FIREWOOD BANDITS. " I laughed and said "I guess so". He said sure I could have the wood, they even delivered the trunks to my yard. For the wood workers, it was a 40" Black Walnut". The arm wood was as big as my waist.

Firewood Bandit How did your honey crisp apples turn out this year? I picked some locally and they were much smaller than other years.

Honeycrisp were down 70% but with 680 trees, there is still a LOT of apples. Honeycrisp size was OK. Wolf River was smaller, 3rd pic, Macs a little smaller. 4th pic. DSCF0002.JPG DSCF0001.JPG DSCF0003.JPG DSCF0004.JPG
