Big catalpa

We're down in Williamsburg Va for the weekend. Walked around a bit of the Colonial part last night after supper, glanced at the base and said my what a tree. Looked up and then thought wow. I've never seen a catalpa this big. I'm 6 ft. In the pic it looks like my arms get a decent way around it, but it would take probably 2.5ish of my armspans to wrap.

We've got some pretty big ones around here too, they're pretty when they're in bloom in June, but man are they messy.

As some others have said, I had no idea they grew that large in other areas. That's a big one man.

 

I had no idea catalpas got that big either. And my wife was calling me a tree hugger too. Usually when I hug a tree, Im feeling out the lean before the 460 or 660 starts eating.....

 

I think most people get fed up with trash and worm poo to hold onto them long.

 

thats a pretty big ol catalpa i have a neighbor at the beginning of my rd that has one that appears to be 5ft around or so at the baseb
