Two weeks ago, I treated myself.

Traded in the 09 Honda Ridgeline and bought subsailor badazz cousin. Brandy new 2020 Colorado ZR2.....LOVE THIS TRUCK.

First new vehicle I've had in 25 years. Goit a deal and a half on 2020 and beat them up pretty good on my trade.

Pics dont do this truck justice.

I looked and test drove for about 2 months and almost resigned to not buying as I could find the right truck and deal. I was really looking into used Colorado Z71 or GMC Canyon All Terrain trim as the ZR2 was so much more spendy :emptywallet:. Never imagined I'd be buying new again.

Right now, used vehicles (Especially mid size trucks) are over priced in most instances due to most dealers gouging. There are a few dealers that are pricing reasonable but unless you get there within a few day sit goes on the lot, the trucks are sold.

One very large multi line GM dealer in Concord NH (anyone around here know who they are) showed over 15 new 2021 Colorado and Canyons available with good incentives from GM. This dealer always has well over 500 cars on their lot. I went by there a month ago and could not find any new trukks I saw online (nor noticed any other new vehicles) on the lot but I did see a 2018 Canyon All terrain that I liked-pricing was at 35K and too high IMO.

Flagged down a sales person and asked where the new trucks were. he said they are at our "other" lot a few miles away. I know of this lot as it is a storage location (probably another 200-300 vehicles here-all new) and I went thru there on my way to the dealership but I didnt see any colorado or canyons. Sales told me right where they were so I went back-all lined up in a back corner.

Saw a few new trucks I might be interested in but was really drawn to the 2018 Canyon. Went back and finally flagged down the same salesman and said I was seriously interested in the Canyon and would take a look and a drive but not unless I knew they were willing to come down on pricing.

His reply "we are not moving on pricing due to the shortage of vehicles". I have no tolerance for bullchit any longer and came back at him pretty hard.

"Shortage??? You mean the shortage that you have created by purosefully moving ALL of your new vehicles with huge incentives to another location in order to hide them from the customers? Those new trucks are trhe same price or within $1,000 od these 2 year old used onws. Keep your fking vehicles!"

We have bought from this dealer in the past and they have a good reputation, but after this tactic to rip off the consumers during these hard times, I will never buy from there again.

I left the Concord dealership pizzed off and actually dissapointed that they were pulling this chit.

Also, I knew of the 2020 ZR2 available in Portsmouth with great incentives but still out of what I was willing to spend. It all really came down to if the dealer would move any further plus what i could get for trade on an 11 year old Honda with 250K miles on it that needed 4 tires before winter (at least $900-1K for proper Michelin tires-which are all I use on that truck), maintenance items were overdue so it really was time for 2-3K in maintenace to keep it. I know that Honda was worth 2-3K max in trade.

Colorado and Canyons are reffered to as the "twins" but I really prefer the looks of GMC over Chevy (except for the ZR2). Unfortuneately GMC are priced higher than Chevy

Purposely test drove a 2021 Z71 and the 2020 ZR2 back to back as the ZR2 was said to be better handling due to wider stance and beefier suspension as well as a 2" lift. The rides and handling were very similar but there was a difference favoring the ZR2. Still the Z71 was my go choice (in the future when pricing is better on 2021) unless I could get the ZR2 at my price. 2020 GM discounts were really good in September and far better than 2021 discounts.

I threw a really low offer on the ZR2 (basically $14K below sticker) that they countered with an offer still 4K away from there. Not buying at that price.

Funny thing. When its Saterday evening and past closing time mid month and they havent sold much that day, the sales manager loses his "cant go any lower" crap real fast. Sales person came back from the manager on the 3rd attempt saying (to my surprise) that they increased my trade allowance from $1K (really?) to $4,500 (well over what it was really worth)

This brought me to with 500 of the low balled offer I gave. Couldnt pass that up
