I can't find Morrels if I trip over them.
I have 3 Shaggy Mains coming on. I will check in the morning to see if any others are coming up.

Here's the crab, morel, and prosciutto risotto that my wife made from the morels I found.

There's asparagus, and parmesan cheese in it too.

    Delicious.

    It is/ was.

I will be having morels in dinner tonight too. Wife used the morels I dehydrated for the risotto. She said the recipe called for dehydrated morels. She didn't want to mess up the recipe and I don't blame her. The dried morels soak up the chicken stock and she thought using the fresh morels might add more liquid to the risotto, messing up consistency. She's probably right.

Here's the pizza my wife made tonight.

A cup and a half of morels I collected, oven roasted garlic, caramelized onions, 3 kinds of cheese, brie, parm and mozzarella, prosciutto, and some fresh basil. No sausage this time. Probably the best she's ever made it.

You all are lucky I got a picture before it was eaten.

Is that home made pizza crust? If so can you give the recipe? Looks good.

It is home made crust. I'll get the recipe from my wife today. I know she made the dough around noon using quick rise yeast.

With our extremely dry Summer and Fall in the NW, the mushroom season has started late. With the rains about 2 weeks ago, the chanterelles are now coming in gangbusters. Yesterday up high two of us picked 2 pecks (about 4 gals. and the daily limit) in less than half an hour. I got down on my knees and started cutting and when I next stood up the basket was full! Nice size and quality. It was a great day to be in the woods! oldgrowth4.jpg

Nice harvest. I don't go out to pick but on our walks through the woods, I try to spot them. They started showing up about two weeks ago. Not that many in the area we walk but their colour sure glows in the woods like little jewels.

Sorry your weather ticker is still not reading. I used to have that sometimes when I had a weather ticker, hopefully it comes back.

I found a hen of the woods a week or so ago. I made mushroom stroganoff. As an experiment, I put the center part in a paper bag, in a bushel basket of oak bark. I'll leave it outside and see what happens. IMG_20200930_40982.jpg

Cool looking. I believe we have those here also but have no experience with them. How did the stroganoff turn out!

I think they are called Chicken of the woods in the PNW. Here is a video link to someone who was gathering and cooking them.

I didn't realize they could get so big.

Stroganoff was good over pasta a few times, then I added what was left to a can of mushroom soup to jazz it up.

I believe Hen of the woods and Chicken of the woods are two different fungi. I am very familiar with our bright orange PNW COTW or "Sulfur Shelf". They are fairly common here. The less vibrantly colored Hen of the woods are more common back east and rare here. I have had no experience with them. On my list now to read up on!

They were good, mild flavor, like a lot of mushrooms.

Hi All, I found these while dissecting an Am Elm. I don’t know anything about mushrooms or identifying them, but I thought this bloom was super interesting. Can anyone tell me what kind they are?

I would classify these under the heading "Little White Mushrooms".
