tfdchief is set for the season. We’re almost half way to mid October. How are you doing? Share your season prep. Shed holds about a third more than a season, holds a little over six and we use a little over four. This is my first year burning soft wood in the shoulders, stacked outside the shed, and so far I’m a fan.
Nice shed and wood... Looks really dry... 2020/2021 first on deck... I'll burn more.. All dry other than the chunks on the table.
What’s on deck so far ok both racks full to 7 feet now... This is fill in 20 -21 The front is 10’ deep 25’ wide. Now about 4’ high 21/22. The right is 2 metal racks about 1.5 cord for this year
I have a small rack just outside the back door for wood I plan on burning that week. Currently it's full of Tulip Poplar with some Blue Spruce mixed in. Under the deck I keep just over a face cord which right now is mostly Ash. I have a couple more stacks in the backyard that are top covered that I'll bring in once the stuff under the deck is gone. Ready to burn this year are Ash, Red/White Oak, Sugar/Red Maple, Beech, Black Locust, Blue Spruce, Tulip Poplar, Aspen, Apple, a little bit of Black/Yellow Birch and Black Cherry.
I'm still totally unprepared. 20-21 wood is still in the front sunning its self along the fence. Springs shoulder wood is where it will stay at least. I need to get the snowblower out of the shed and put two cords of oak in it. Then move my wifes parts inventory out of my porch where I put my 1/2 cord bin, and fill that up as well.
I just started bringing wood in on Sunday. My basement area holds three full cords. I have to fill it over twice each winter. I hate going outside to get wood at 5am when its 10 below zero and windy. Plus it makes the basement nice and toasty to work on projects!!! I've got a cord of Pine to the left, a cord of Cherry in the middle, and I still need to stack a cord of Birch/maple mix on the far side nearest the stove. My hope is that while I'm burning the lower grade BTU stuff, the heat from the woodstove will remove any extra moisture out of the Birch and Maple. This will be my first year burning softwoods for shoulder season as well. Also first time separating wood by species.
First up will be this shed full of poplar. Second up will be this old stack of cherry. Third up will be this heap of locust, mulberry, and whatnot. It's what our friend was going to take, but said he "didn't have room for". Finally, the sugar maple and mixed wood in two bays of the woodshed. I can't get to it until I split the rounds in front! And finally, the oak left over from last winter, that's stacked in the basement. I'll be happy if I can burn all this up!
Two rows deep 30’ long. I’ll bring wood in and fill a small rack until it gets nasty out. Then I can fill my stove in my slippers for the rest of the season.
I'm getting wood from several stacks this year. Have just got started bringing wood to the barn and that will take a while to complete as I'm still recuperating and simply can't do much but enjoying what I can do.
I'm seriously impressed with the group here! Definitely a lot of creativity in getting the wood to it's final staging place before being turned into heat. At first I thought this thread was going to turn into a "who's is bigger?" contest so I'm happy to see that's not the case.
